Just curious, does this alter any of the horse speeds and accelerations to properly show what horses really are the fastest and quickest?

You can really tell this mod is a labor of love. From the presentation (the banner image is lovely), to the in-depth explanations you
give for each change, to even the pics of the references you used.
I'm loving it so far. I only spared the dark bay Andalusian, because I love that coat to bits and to my understanding bay coloring is relatively common in the breed. But I'm getting my hands on that mule as soon as I can afford it.

    Great work!

This is fantastic so far, just letting you know another person is cheering you on =)

I think I had an issue with some of the installation, though - the fleabitten mule model looks like this. Everything else seems to be loading fine. Any suggestions?

Did you ever figure out what the issue was? Cos I'm having the same problem now.

I had exactly the same problem ! But it was my fault ! I mistakenly deleted in the "lml /stream" folder one of the files belonging to the "War Horse Pre-Order mod"! So once re-installed, everything works perfectly :)

I like the concept, though there's no evidence the Andalusian was in the American West. Same goes for the Turkoman, and Dutch Warmblood, which to my knownledge were extinct horse breeds.

The Dutch Warmblood wasn't extinct but, as I noted, rather didn't exist yet - its studbook was created in the 1960s, which is why I replaced it with the Tennessee Walker. The Andalusian has been around for centuries, and, while the modern Andalusian as we know it was only exported relatively recently, its ancestors would've been brought wherever people like the conquistadores took them. They also probably didn't visually change that much - heritage horse breeds like Arabs, Icelandic horses, Mongolian horses, etc. tend to look pretty much exactly like they always have. (If you're interested, in this article is a 1930s photograph of a horse wearing excavated Parthian armor--ah, pre-regulation archaeology!--and you can see by the person holding the reins that a) the horse is not that large, and b) the armor fits pretty closely compared to illustrations of the Parthians, meaning that the general shape of the horse hasn't changed all that dramatically.) Therefore, I figured the Andalusian was "fair enough" when there were more egregious breeds to deal with.

The Turk was probably extinct by that point, yes, but its modern descendant the Akhal-Teke was definitely around in 19th century America, again as I noted. Hosea certainly could've acquired Silver Dollar in the way that Hosea does, I'm just wondering how they got Bob. I don't think I'll take them out because I have absolutely no idea how to remove breeds from the game entirely, only swap them around. I might merge them with the thoroughbred, but I also just have a soft spot for Akhal-Tekes since the one I know is very sweet.

I've been toying with this mod a lot in the last couple weeks, and I'm slowly working on trying to swap in-game mustangs to Kiger mustangs, Kentucky saddlers to mustangs, and Andalusians to Spanish mustangs. Perhaps Arabians could be modified and renamed to the American Indian Horse or one of its old names? The registry is definitely pretty new, but the horses themselves have been around for a long time. It just seemed weird to me that there were only three variants of one of the most iconic animals of the American West.

As for the Akhal-Teke, perhaps you could swap them with the Andalusians and go with the change to some sort of mustang strain?

i'll be honest with you chief, horses is one of the main reason i was interested in RDR2 on the first place even if im pretty ignorant about them  and at the moment i found i could mod them. i directly came to this and drowned on a myriad of mods which replaced horses one by one and it was incredibly confusing deciding which coats i should use (as a non english speaker, the color nomenclature is an absolute nightmare...first time was like "the hell means bay flaxen dapple roan palomino O.o?"). I cant express enough how glad im to find your work fam, thanks a lot for taking the hassle not only to create but to go the extra mile and replace them in a logical"?" lore-friendly disposition.

10/10 would endorse and deffinitely vote, thanks again

The coat colours you listed are actually what cowboys call them nowadays (and very likely then as well).

Indeed they are, but as i said, as a non english speaker they make not sense (in spanish) like for example "palomino" means...just that palomino (in spanish means "like a dove") or roan means ruano (and thats neither a wood or a a rock or a type of fabric so you might get a reference lmao).

This mod is really helpful cuz i downloaded a tons other with hella lot of colors which sadly , didnt make any sense to me and was lost in whic ones should i use and so on :/

Also ... do you know if the Tennessee Walker Mahogany Bay Coat is hardcoded no matter what? I tried changing the coat to a different name and it never works, always stays "Mahogany Bay."

Best thing to do is look around at other mods that change horse stats on the Nexus.  Each has their own edited pedattribute.ymt and an install file.  Poke around in the file and you'll find the stats - they're laid out in the same way for each horse (bond, health, stamina, speed, acceleration, and handling).  An author of another horse coat mod was kind enough to share that the horses are in alphabetical order.  It'll take some trial and error, but ultimately, I was able to create a pedattribute.ymt for personal use switching Tennessee Walkers to American Quarter Horses.  The game path is /x64/data/metadata/pedattributes.ymt for the install.

Addendum - I think I found the answer to why "the Tennessee Walker Mahogany Bay Coat is hardcoded no matter what? I tried changing the coat to a different name and it never works, always stays 'Mahogany Bay.'"

You need to find <String label="COAT_MAHBAY">Mahogany Bay</String> and change that first.  Any coat that is shared across breeds will be effected by the change, e.g. if you change "Bay Roan" to "Red Roan," then all the "Bay Roan" horses will be named "Red Roan" even if you only intended it for 1 horse breed.

So cool because recently color replacement mods are around such as palomino sabino thoughbred replaces the brindle but still says brindle as coat color. Plus How do I change the color name on the coat color because I've been using the silver dapple fox trotter mod online the the black tovero replaces the silver dapple pinto but still shows as silver dapple pinto its time for some change. Could you tell me how to change the coat color.

I'm not 100% sure what you're asking, but I will caution you that modding online horses, even just cosmetic changes, is really tempting fate. LML is still a script injector and the anti-cheating methods probably won't make that distinction. best practice is to remove all mods any time you're playing online - so I don't actually know if or how this mod will affect online play.

that being said, text replacement isn't that hard. You'll need this mod and its requirements as well as the optional rdr2-translator.xml file containing every string in game. you'll also need notepad++ or some text editor that can read large xml files.

      • open both the mod's rdr2-translator.xml file (it'll be empty) and the example file.
      • in the example file, search for the term you want to replace. there will be a lot, all contained within <string="[some HEX]"></string> tags. copy every single one and paste them into the mod's file.
      • then, in the mod file, edit the term to say what you want it to and save. copy all of the string translator's files, plus your edited xml file, into the root Red Dead 2 directory and launch the game.
if all goes well, you should see your replaced text in game!

Hello, I am sorry if I am bothering you with this but I wanted to ask, how should one change the horses coats? I am new to this and I wanted to change coats of some horses that the mods didnt cover yet. I have the translator, open IV as well and do I need something else? I suppose its done by changing certain strings in horses files where lets say I take black arabian and exchange the black coat with something else, lets say blueroan nokota´s coat? Or how does it work? I would be very grateful for any help

Thanks, great work so far. they look beautiful. Also, nice work packing everything in one download. not like others horse "packs" that you have to download "157" different files. xD
