Bandit Hideouts Mexico Expansion
Hello Bandit Hideout fans!
Today i want to inform you about my planned Mexico expansion, basically building hideouts in the
Mexico area of the game, south of New Austin.

Recent experiment and test
Recently Sunday June 30th, 2024 i had added the 3 regions of Mexico which are:
DiezCoronas, Perdido, and PuntaOrgullo
to the scripts, as a region is required for a hideout to spawn.

For the test
I downloaded 2 mods, one for a bridge to get across the San Luis river, and another mod with a Mexico settlement.

Built a hideout in the settlement
I had built a small hideout within this settlement, i had a campfire, and about a handful of bandits in various places,
also had reinforcement spawn points on either side of the settlement. The building process was normal, only issue with placing
bandits is the Mexico area functions like Guarma does where i cant spawn temp peds for the bandits with the menu i use.

The test results

After the hideout was built and i rendered the asi, once ingame i had approached the area like any normal hideout,
the icon on the lower left showed telling me that the hideout spawned in, as soon as i walked into the settlement area,
i started looking for the bandits i had placed.

All bandits spawned np, once i had attacked and killed one of them, the bandits responded accordingly, however
they were not able to move.  Reinforcements spawned in np, only 2 were on horses and the rest on foot,
only one on the horse moved, and the others including those on foot stayed where they were at.

The final results were that the hideout spawns np and functions like its supposed to, but ... the bandits cannot move,
from what i understand is that there is no ped navigation functional for the terrain for that area of the map.
So im sorry to say that there is nothing i can do to fix that nor would know how. For now this expansion idea is on hold.

Future plans and requirement
The future expansion is and will be on hold right now as given my reason above, so you may be asking so you cant build hideouts for
the stated reason yet your going to do it in the future sometime, and wont you get the same results?
Yes and no, let me explain.

Future expansion requirement
So the Mexico expansion of the mod will require another mod which happens to be the Nuevo Paraiso-Mexico mod
The mod will be required because that mod adds all the towns and roads to the map, so its a complete mod regarding that.

That mod is still work in progress and from what i was told the mod devs of that mod are still working on it, if and when they post
their mod or update that page with an update adding the ped navigation to the mod, then at that point i will start working on
building hideouts in that area, until then all we can do is wait until that happens.
If anyone has any insight on the status and situation of that mod please let me know, all for now. Cheers!

Mexico Would be incredible for this mod, adding some kinetic energy to Mexico and plenty of great places for shootouts. if you could, you should put snipers on the big plateaus perhaps. but this expansion is a great idea

No way i would be able to do that, it would dependent on hideouts spawning, and you would have to be
within a range of them for them to spawn. Even then i dont have specific control over what spawns other
then a gang at a hideout, and not so much what they will carry, unless i created a new gang.

Not really going to do anything with Mexico until they do something with the navmesh, once i hear an
update has been done for that or someone did it then i will build a hideout somewhere there
      and test it out.
Maybe someone could ask Rockstar if their not to busy and at least update that area with navmesh
then i can spend the next year populating it with hideouts.
Ya the expansion is a good idea problem is
the other party if you will either quit or are in limbo, or are silently working on their mod. So if someone could
get some insider details as to what their doing then the twinkle in my eye might stills shine for this expansion.

ah, I see. Im not a modder so I'm not exactly sure how it works but id still be excited if somehow the nuevo paraiso mod is picked up again and hideouts could be fleshed out.

Ya for sure, ya thats basically what that area needs is navmesh which allows peds to move around, without
that i can build a hideout np just the bandits wont move so they are just basically cannonfodder.
So its a waiting game at this point for Mexico expansion.

Regarding Mexico... No idea what I'm talking about, but maybe, it could be worth looking for other potential workarounds? Like duplicating some regions that exist on the main map, with their existing nav meshes? Maybe employing a stealth teleportation mechanic, as the player travels through a tunnel. Is it possible to remove snow from northern regions (as then you could potentially reuse that area and have it look and feel completely different)? Just some ideas.

Thanks for the ideas but i have no idea how to do any of that stuff.

No prob. It's already fantastic work you've done.

Just wondering if there is any way to add the wandering zombies and still keep some wandering bandits? Or is it all or nothing for that option?

You may still get the bandit posse on horseback, and the random roaming bandits, bandits at hideouts
will still be there unless you changed the setting for zombie lairs.
Cant really say but it might be all or nothing, i rarely if ever play with zombies, and i didn't write the code
      crossed did so try it.

Introducing a ped nav mesh would open a world of new modding possibilities. I installed the nuevo paraiso mod (great work and effort) but got rid of it later on as it's not fun to cross the whole map just to go in a town where no one moves. Hope someone figures out a way to introduce it.

Ya im with you, you would think at some point in time it would be done considering the number of
amazing well crafted mods we have on the nexus, but i agree this is what holds me back from building hideouts there
      is no bandit will move.

I hope the reason the nuevo paraiso mod did not get an update in so many months is that somebody may have figured out how to edit/add nav meshes and they're testing it, but I've not read nothing on the discord server since the nexus upload. Mexico would also open a lot of possibilities for those "jobs" type mods eg. Bounty hunting, heading, jobs, amjm, contracts.

Good points, do you have the discord link for the Mexico mod channel by chance?
Maybe i can get some more insight on the situation and see if anything is actually going on.

Hey i think its great that you're working on expanding mexico with your mod. Bandit hideouts is one of my top mods fr!
As for the peds not being able to move around, that has always been a problem with mexico from the start.

If im allowed to give my thoughts. I would still love to have bandits in mexico, regardless if they can move around or not (don't think that issue will be solved any time soon) as it would breath a lot of life in that area. Maybe add it as an optional addition?

Since you mentioned the horseback riders are able to ride around when attacking the player. Maybe it would be a cool idea if you can transform Mexico into a badlands area kinda, where there are plenty of random "roaming" bandits on horseback that attack you as soon as they spot you?

Would be cool, but those are just my thoughts. Honestly glad that a mod developer like you is still actively supporting their mod. Thank you!

Yes, I support the idea of turning Mexico into a zone of a large variety of aggressive mounted bandits, which would correspond to the reality of that era! :)

Well i could build hideouts down there, again bandits on foot wont move, and in my test only one of the bandits on horse
moved, so i haven't really tested it further then that to see if they even work on horses because the other didn't move.
Bandits sorta of really didn't engage you either, i had only 2 guys engage me when i got close, this would need
further testing, i mean i like the idea of building hideouts down there but the drawback is, its alot of work to accomplish nothing really
because none of them will move, their basically cannon fodder.
As for the required mod itself i've yet to install it and check it out, i suppose with the number of days i have off coming up
i can install it and then build a test hideout somewhere and see how they all respond and then make a decision from there,
      no promises though.
transform Mexico into a badlands area kinda, where there are plenty of random "roaming" bandits on horseback
that attack you as soon as they spot you?
That would take an extra script to make that happen, all i know is what i learned from crossed, building hideouts and other misc
in the code. There is already the bandit posse on horseback, you could always crank the numbers up for that, but again
i still need to test more to see if bandits on horseback can actually move, if they cant then the idea is going to have to wait.
Honestly glad that a mod developer like you is still actively supporting their mod. Thank you!
Oh your welcome, dont think i could stop working on it, love the game and the mod. But i appreciate the feedback and the interest.
I'll keep you guys posted on the test i do this coming weekend, if it turns out good then i might consider to start building
hideouts out there, but again its going to require and be revolved around the Mexico mod.

Yeah i totally understand, having ped navigation in mexico would open so many opportunities. Like even having wild animals spawn in and run around, and the bandits not being cannon fodder as you said xD

The Nuevo Paraiso mod is great, you should definitely check it out once you have the time. And my hopes are also high that they can figure out how to enable ped nav there, and perhaps other parts of the out of bounds areas of the map.

Thanks for replying to my previous comment and considering the ideas for possible future updates. Kudos to you Gunter!

Thanks brother, ya when the Mexico mod adds ped pathing to Mexico there then i can start building hideouts.
Bandit Hideouts will give players a reason aside the change of terrain, and the RDR1 nostalgia to go out there.
