Hello Bandit Hideout fans!
Gunter Severloh here i want to give you some background about the mod, how i came to be the author
in relation to crossed99 and his mod AMJM Transport.
Bandit Hideouts mod background - The Authors
As some of you know Bandit Hideouts is literally a copy of all the bandit features of the mod AMJM Transport created by crossed99.
As a player of RDR2 i have been playing RDR2 since it released on Steam in 2019, when AMJM Transport mod released in
2021 i had played with it for a long time, and mainly was fascinated by all the bandit features.
So i sent crossed pm's asking questions about this and that since release, then one day in April (2023) i had asked crossed
about an idea i had about creating a standalone mod of only all the bandit features of his mod AMJM transport, and to
my surprise he was ok with that.
So what he did was make a copy of his mod sent me the source files and then spent a few days going through it disabling
all the scripts and code dealing with wagons, and other aspects of the mod that had nothing to do with the bandit features of the mod.
He also sent me a large email with all the information with code on how to build hideouts with each component of the code.
The mod's first hideout - Mod debut
Then we agreed on a time and day on a weekend in late April early May on discord and he walked me through building my first hideout
which was named Dormin Crest which from this video was the debut of the mod: Video https://youtu.be/NSytf_LJ3zI
As we worked together on discord he told me to name the mod whatever i wanted, so after some thought i named it
Bandit Hideouts which was fitting as the main or core aspect of the mod was all bandit hideouts.
After releasing the mod we continued to get together on discord on Sundays for a few hours going over code,
and fixing some of the bugs or issues that were being reported in the comments.
Since those days we had maintained contact through email with me asking him questions and crossed answering
with code sometimes. After about 7 months of building hideouts on and off and working with the code, i have a
decent method that enables me to build hideouts and ambush points without issues.Question:
Who does all the amazing work for the high resolution downloadable map that shows where all
the hideouts and ambush points are in the game?
LittleBigSmoak and Moth-man, LittleBigSmoak updates the map for each update to the mod.
You can thank him for the super detailed work he does for helping you know where all the hideouts and ambush locations are!Question:
I would like to know about you Gunter what is your modding, scripting background what is your experience?
I come from the Arma community which consists of the games:
Operation Flashpoint Coldwar Crisis, Arma 1, Arma 2, Arma2OA, and Arma 3.
I've been in the community since the beginning of the series which started in 2001 and to this day contribute and help fellow
Arma 3 members where needed, mostly with troubleshooting the game, compilations, scripts, tutorials, scenarios, mods, and other things.
I'm not a scripter or coder but have learned how to work with alot of code for the Arma games which the scripting
language for that is called SQF (Status Quo Function).
As for Bandit Hideouts mod which the scripts are mainly C++ i've mainly just learned how to build the hideouts, ambush points,
add props and set them up so they can spawn, among other things. I know the basics of code about syntax and other functions
based on what i've worked with. Crossed mainly does the coding for the mod, as we work through email on features, or troubleshooting
and i apply any code to the scripts based on what we are doing.
