Characters from other unity or infinity engine games is abundantly normal to me. Some art styles may be different but they are all 'art', instead of a portrait of their ingame head/body. Besides, it is just using the image; You can come up with a backstory that is similar or completely different, that helps differentiate it automatically in your mind. Play that character for a couple hours and you might be able to continue to do so, without even having a stray thought of that other game.
What is abnormal and uncomfortable for me, is choosing one of the stock images only to find out that it's the portrait of a different unique character that frequents your story. Fortunately the [Respecialization] mod now lets us change that. Was finally able to leave my immersion into the story be jarred by seeing two Reverend Jhod Kavken, in the past. When Rev. Kavken first inters the story, a couple hours into the story, already am I. Thus, rerolling is less of an option in the lens distortion of mine.
Even Baldur's Gate, Planescape: Torment, Icewind Dale, and Neverwinter Nights had gamers sharing portrait packs that came from sources outside of the game itself. Perhaps that is why it seems normal to me.
Then that is what should be done by you, FourteenApples. A gamer using the mod only sees the portraits through other mods or at character creation. It is completely different than if OwlCat used a likeness from a primary character in the Witkher series ch.y.o.a. storybook, for one of the characters in this game... Yet that might be a little neat, as long as they get permission and establish an abundantly different, detailed, though similar story.
Then create a backstory for the character, and then boost their starting xp. Then they have "experience" to match their age, instead of suffering from Alzheimers.
