---- About the mod ----

This mod removes the "floating HUD" and aims to change the overall HUD to a more traditional static overlay design, similar to other contemporary action-adventure games (like the Horizon series). There are also other small changes.

Standard Variant

  • Rotation of all status HUD elements removed
  • Lifebar and Weapons/O2/Sprint Panel repositioned to the top left corner
  • Compass moved down a bit
  • Minimap size reduced and repositioned to the top right corner
  • Context Action icon (Swim, Talk, Gamsaav, etc.) repositioned to the bottom right corner
  • Pulsating animation of the button icon from the Context Action icon removed
  • Icon size of picked up items reduced and slightly repositioned
  • Infotext panel (Autosave, Lexicon accessed, Items, etc) is now still in the center, if a weapon is equipped or map is open
  • Infotext / Dialoguetext panel width slightly decreased and background removed
  • Added outline and shadow to infotext / dialoguetext to make it easier to read without background
  • Onboard Computer (inventory, lexicon, etc.) rotation removed
  • Background blur added, when Onboard Computer is open (to improve readability)
  • "Unfolding" animation of info/dialogue text removed
  • Reticle resized to 70% of original size

Clean Variant

  • Includes everything from the standard variant, plus...
  • Removed target frame on enemies, when Auto-Targeting is enabled
  • Removed NPC status icons above their heads (name, info, emoji)
  • Removed name info panels on the fullscreen map
  • Removed aiming reticle
NOTE: There's also a clean variant with reticle available!

---- Installing the mod ----

BepInEx Installation:

  • You need BepInEx 5.4.22 (x64), which functions as the mod loader/injector. If you don't have it yet, download "BepInEx_x64_5.4.22.0.zip" from here.
  • Unpack everything from the BepInEx zip file into the Outcast folder, where "outcast.exe" is located. For Steam it should be something like:
    ...\steamapps\common\Outcast - Second Contact\
  • Run Outcast Second Contact once and exit again. Now there should be a plugins folder inside of the BepInEx folder, e.g.
    ...\steamapps\common\Outcast - Second Contact\BepInEx\plugins

Mod Installation:

  • Download the mod zip file of your preferred variant here and unpack it somewhere.
  • Copy the .dll file and paste it into the mentioned BepInEx plugins folder. That's it!

Mod Uninstallation:

  • If you don't want to use it anymore, just delete the .dll file from the plugins folder!

---- Special Thanks  ----
Special Thanks to Christian Fritz Schneider from GameStar for his feedback & ideas (especially for the Clean Variant) and for testing the mod!

---- Recommendations ----
Check out Ulukkar's mod & recommendations for the ultimate Outcast SC experience:
I think the HUD is nearly perfect, [...] the infinite sprint is essential and the classic camera is perfect, so i combine all this with my True Experience mod and voila, the game is a lot better now, none of these mods will leave my game anymore.
(Honorable mention to the Minimap Marker Mod and Minimap Orientation Mod, I also like them a lot)

These awesome mods should be compatible with the BepInEx plugins, as these are ini and asset modifications:

---- Further information ----

Removing enemy info icons above their heads (question mark, skull, etc.) is no longer included in the mod, as it can be also turned off in the ingame options:
Options > Main > Show enemy info in HUD > Off
