UPDATE 18.03.2024

  • NEW: Added a "Classic Variant" of the mod. Check out the features below and in the screenshots!

UPDATE 15.03.2024

  • NEW: Two variants added, replacing the previous version (see below for features)
  • NEW: Camera damping in vertical direction improved during aiming, to make it more steady and reduce stutter/jitter while moving over obstacles (stones, hills,...)
  • NEW: Aiming cam while riding Twon-Ha fixed.
  • REMOVED: Cutter is always at the center --> Camera inertia reintroduced during normal view, as it turns out to be more steady this way
  • NEW: Camera inertia in lateral direction decreased a bit during aiming, so that the camera is not too "loose" while strafing

You can still find my initially uploaded variant along with the descriptions under the spoiler tag:

Some changes regarding the 3rd person camera:
  • Changed the position of the over-the-shoulder aiming cam to a position similar to other contemporary 3rd person shooters
  • Removed the strange bobbing, when you aim while running forwards/backwards
  • Removed the lagging camera when you move laterally (now Cutter is always at the center).
  • Aligned the "safe" camera (the close-up cam to avoid clipping through walls) to the same/similar position as the aiming cam. The original close-up cam often suddenly hovers over Cutters head while you aim and move, which I found distracting. This also often happened outside with no obstructions in proximity. On the other hand with this mod active, there will be some clipping errors, when e.g. Cutter's back is near a wall.

---- About the mod ----
Vanilla Fix Variant

  • Aims to keep the original zoom factor of the aiming cam, but with the following fixes:
  • Removed the strange bobbing, when you aim while running forwards/backwards
  • Camera damping in vertical direction improved during aiming, to make it more steady and reduce stutter/jitter while moving over obstacles (stones, hills,...)
  • Camera inertia in lateral direction decreased a bit during aiming, so that the camera is not too "loose" while strafing
  • Aiming cam while riding Twon-Ha fixed
  • Aligned the "safe" camera (the close-up cam to avoid clipping through walls) and indoor camera to the same/similar position as the aiming cam.
NOTE: The original unmodded close-up cam often suddenly hovers over Cutter's head while you aim and move, which I found distracting. This also happens outside with no obstructions in proximity. This fixes this issue. --> On the other hand with this mod active, there could be some clipping errors, when e.g. Cutter's back is near a wall
Modern Variant

  • Includes everything from the "Vanilla Fix" variant, but...
  • Changed the position/zoom factor of the aiming cam to a farther position
Classic Variant

  • Includes most of the fixes from the "Vanilla Fix" variant, but mainly...
  • Aims to recreate the aiming cam from the original 1999 game, which means it basically removes the modern "over-the-shoulder" aiming view and keeps the camera far behind Cutter
  • Camera inertia in lateral direction increased during aiming, so that the camera is more "loose" while strafing

---- Installing the mod ----
BepInEx Installation:

  • You need BepInEx 5.4.22 (x64), which functions as the mod loader/injector. If you don't have it yet, download "BepInEx_x64_5.4.22.0.zip" from here.
  • Unpack everything from the BepInEx zip file into the Outcast folder, where "outcast.exe" is located. For Steam it should be something like:
    ...\steamapps\common\Outcast - Second Contact\
  • Run Outcast Second Contact once and exit again. Now there should be a plugins folder inside of the BepInEx folder, e.g.
    ...\steamapps\common\Outcast - Second Contact\BepInEx\plugins

Mod Installation:

  • Download the mod zip file of your preferred variant here and unpack it somewhere
  • Copy the .dll file and paste it into the mentioned BepInEx plugins folder. That's it!

Mod Uninstallation:

  • If you don't want to use it anymore, just delete the .dll file from the plugins folder!

---- Special Thanks  ----
Special Thanks to Christian Fritz Schneider from GameStar for his feedback & ideas (especially for the Classic Variant) and for testing the mod!

---- Recommendations ----
Check out Ulukkar's mod & recommendations for the ultimate Outcast SC experience:
I think the HUD is nearly perfect, [...] the infinite sprint is essential and the classic camera is perfect, so i combine all this with my True Experience mod and voila, the game is a lot better now, none of these mods will leave my game anymore.
(Honorable mention to the Minimap Marker Mod and Minimap Orientation Mod, I also like them a lot)

These awesome mods should be compatible with the BepInEx plugins, as these are ini and asset modifications:
