Interview with humannature66, winner of July's FOTM Contest.

Well, July is over and that means File of the Month. KDStudios won July’s FOTM contest with his mod, Falloutcraft – Minecraft in Fallout. However, since we interviewed him last month, we decided to interview the second place winner, humannature66 about his mod, TYPE3 & SKINNY LNC StealthSuits. We hope you enjoy reading, and remember to vote in August’s FOTM contest so you can see your favorite mod author featured here.

Q: So, tell us a bit about yourself. What are some of your hobbies?
A: Sports, first of all inline-skating. Then slalom, freestyle, speed-skating, that stuff.
My wife and I spend 10 hours a week on the road, if possible more.
Besides the physical fitness it's a fine chargeback to clear your head.
Also music, a lot of it. And all different kinds. I love Bob Marley as much as Nirvana or Foo Fighters, chillout or 90's trance ... well, I'm oldschool.

Q: What are some of your favorite games besides Fallout 3?
A: I used to play all the Tomb Raiders, in fact Lara got me into games. She was my style icon.
I also play a bit of Need for Speed, but not seriously. I'm no excessive gamer.

Q: What was your inspiration for "TYPE3 and SKINNY LNC StealthSuits"?
A: I had a talk with a friend about sci-fi & space stuff, and a few days later that suit came into being in different variations.
Secret weapons and armor, and old and long hidden secrets are typical for Fallout; and so I thought about something like "liquid semi-intelligent metal". Anything “crazy” like that, like the T-1000 from Terminator 2. I wanted it to be mainly light but covering, and of course for girls.
FO3's best vanilla pre-war weapons and armors are Chinese, and so is the Chinese Stealth Armor. So, I thought an American variant would be okay.

Q: What is your favorite part of mod creation?
A: The shaping in Blender, though I still have much to learn. Also, it's always fascinating to check a new part of the mod for the first time in the GECK. How does it appear, and will it look the way I had it in my mind?

What about your least favorite part?
A:Sorting files maybe… Seriously though, scripting and such. I’m a complete noob when it comes to that, and I envy modders who are capable of breathing life into NPC’s! I don’t get that part, it’s a miracle to me.

Q: What was the first mod you created and how have you progressed from it?
A: After 800 hours of playing FO3 on the Xbox, I felt it could be a good decision to change to the PC version, so I could finally get something new in “my” game.
The first mod I made was just a slight retexture of the vanilla vault-suit, and to be honest, at that time I had no idea how .nif and .dds files worked.
But in fact, that little effort made me hungry for more; and 1700 hours later I'm still not full.

Q: Did you come across any challenges while making this mod?
A: Not really, making a suit for two different body-types was a bit atypical, but not complicated. I like to keep things easy.
To be honest, none of my stuff is very complicated. I guess this suit is just liked for its shine.
...Well, okay. Skimpy stuff always sells well!

Q: Do you have any plans for future mods?
A: Skyrim’s coming up, so that’s where everyone will look soon. Despite that, I can’t imagine I’ll leave D.C. There are still big mods coming up for Fallout 3 and New Vegas, like AQFH3. I also have some more suits mind. Sometimes things just emerge by chance though, so we’ll see.

Q: Do you have any advice for aspiring mod authors?
A: Don’t get discouraged if you don’t hit the mainstream. Not every mod is a top-seller, but that doesn’t mean it’s not worth it to release that mod. Hey, I know what I’m talking about. Try not to get frustrated on difficulties or problems. It’s better to take a break and try it again later.

Q: Finally, do you have anything else you would like to say to our readers out there?
A: A BIG THANK YOU to everyone who votes for FOTM or just endorses mods. No matter which one he or she choose, every positive reaction counts!
Thank you all!

Thank you, humannature66, for your time. Remember to check back here next month for more interviews.
