Sadly won't accept my input image in any format (TGA, PNG, BMP attempted), so it's no use to me. Ended up using BMP2DDS, but the game still won't read the result.
Hey everyone, GIMP has a nifty dds plugin, but if you can't get that to work, or you just have a problem dds, this site worked for me: https://www.aconvert.com/image/dds-to-png/ It's a little slow, but you don't have to download anything and it worked on a pos texture I had that was crashing everything else.
Aside from not having a normal download button and requiring to use dropbox or scanning the QR code, this site is very useful for the simple conversion of .dds files into something manageable.
Well this turned out to be a waste of time, but I guess I should've expected a catch with a mod as old as this.
Thing is, this converter is capable of converting just about anything to any image files, except for .dds files. For some reason it's utterly invisible to it. Followed the author's instructions, set input to .dds and output with just about any file listed, still nothing.
Maybe this is really just a user error, but all I've done is installed the thing as instructed and used the methods listed by the author. For the time being, you could try your luck, but if you get the same results just find another method.
For those who get crashes while trying to run the conversion, you need to specify the location of the file which you are trying to convert in the "image file list" blank.
The uploader should really put out a huge 72 point sized, allcaps, underlined, red colored text in the description that says:
"Don't even try to use this piece of garbage, because it won't run and I'm uploading it only for my own amusement of some sorts."
Well, windows XP was a nice operational system - at least compared to win7 it sucked less -, but people don't really use machines installed with win XP anymore for gaming. This software became obsolete and useless in that process.
It works fine for me in Windows 10, so perhaps you should get off your high horse and make sure it's nothing on your end before trying to be a smartass.
kyods are you on a computer that was "upgraded" to 10? If so, your computer still has the necessary files installed to run it properly. On a fresh PC, with nothing BUT 10's files, this program does not function. This is a growing issue, caused 100% by Microsoft. No, compatibility mode doesn't fix it. It doesn't crash, but it doesn't function at all.
I have many programs that no longer work on my new PC, even though they're the same version as are on my old one. Things like AppLocal still work on anything that went from XP->7->10, but if you wiped or start fresh, RIP all old programs & games.
Run the program in compatibility mode: WinXP service pack 2 > change image size ( 1024x768, or 1280x1024) so it can be divided by the power of 2 > enter the "C:UsersXXXXDesktopfallout-image" ( the path manually) > klick the "weird-back-slash" buttom > Hit convert-buttom > program crashes... Dx fml!!
all this program does is crash when I try to convert a .dds to .psd, this sucks all I want to do is open a damn texture and edit it. I'm able to convert .dds to .bmp with dxtbmp but there is no color and the image is impossible to really make out, it's all blue! I have no clue what I'm doing and this is really frustrating. Am I missing a step?
Im running windows 7 I'm using Gimp and DXTBmp. someone help steer me in the right direction, I thought I had this figured out.
ok so I have windows 7 ultimate and I have it running in windows xp mode but when i click on a .DDS file it doesn't let me convert it. Why is that and if you don't know do happen to have another program that converts .dds to .tga or .pds? thank you
