Hi, just looking at this and wondering: is this only for the houses that feature in quests? I think so. So if any other NPC eats something rotten and dies accidentally... umm... his/her house is not going to be covered by this, right? The fact of the matter is that in the Shivering Isles people do regularly eat something rotten... Just yesterday for example I only started a new game (a test game, but still), just entered New Sheoth for the first time, and immediately I'm getting a message saying that Hirrus died unexpectedly and now I shall never find out what it was that he wanted. Previously I also had Big Head die accidentally. Other people too. Not my doing! So it would actually be very good to simply check the vital signs of the citizens, and should any of them die, either through a quest or accidentally, then the house would become available for purchase or redistribution.

If you'd rather not bother with this, then would you mind if I made such a mod myself? Similar to yours, but probably worked in a different way. I would also not wait until Jyggalag is defeated, I'd run it from the start. Useful if you have no intention of playing the Greymarch...

oh wow, I didn't even know that could happen! yes, this mod only covers the houses that feature in quests once those quests are finished - so in your case, Hirrus' house wouldn't be covered since it was before the quest. I thought about having it check for the NPC's vital signs, but truthfully, I didn't know how to do so at the time I made the mod haha! anyway, yes feel free to make such a mod yourself! for me, there are many houses which I don't plan on doing anything to because they are unique in some way (such as Cindanwe's house and Bruscus Dannus' house), so perhaps you'll be able to find a way to work with these houses! :)

There is an assassin living in Bliss - a Redguard, perhaps you met him? A vanilla NPC. He claims to have retired, although he also admits that he hadn't "reached the number" yet or something. I suspect it's him! I suspect he is still secretly murdering people... just for practice!

Anyway, thanks, I'll have a think how best to handle this.

those dang assassins! Ruining our good games for us innocent players! :')

I wish you much luck in filling those houses! you might try checking out the mod "Imperial Real Estate" by Lametrie, as it's a mod that does something similar (allows the player to buy empty houses in Cyrodiil) - it's more in-depth than my mod here, so it might help you figure out the best way to do so! :)

Awesome mod, thank you very much! I was always sad that when you kill half of the city, it became so empty.

Would you consider to make something similar with rest Cyrodiil cities? But just simple add new NPCs to empty houses? I believe there are at least four empty houses only in Bruma, which it's almost half of the town :D

Anyway thanks for this mod! <3

:) thank you so much for the kind words in return! I'm so happy that you like it! you know, I never really thought about doing an equivalent for Cyrodiil but I really like the idea - there is the mod "Better Inns and New Homeowners" that does have a similar feature, however it is attached to the "Better Inns" part of the mod which somewhat lowers the compatibility of it, so a new standalone version could be great! Though it would be a long time before I could make such a mod since it would need some sort of way to avoid conflicting with Better Cities or Open Cities, which is not really a problem I had with the Shivering Isles cities since there isn't really an equivalent! (I mean, there is an Open Cities - New Sheoth, but it doesn't seem to be as popular as the Cyrodiil Open Cities!)

I think you should do a similar mod for cyrodiil because better inns do a lot more. Better inns add a lot of new NPCS and edit inns.

Like always you breathe new life into the Shivering Isles. Do you know of any mods besides Better Inns that adds the new homeowner feature to Cyrodiil?

:) wow, thank you so much!! Truthfully that's what I try to do most, is bring the Shivering Isles up to the same amount of liveliness as Cyrodiil itself!

as to your question, I don't think so? or at least, if such a mod does exist, then I don't know anything about it - the only one that's similar that I know of is Imperial Real Estate, however what that mod does is it allows the player to buy the emptied houses for themselves as opposed to moving in new NPCs. Someone mentioned such a mod earlier asking if I would consider making it, and I do think it would be a lot of fun to make honestly! Though I'm not sure what the best way to implement it would be, so I don't intend to start working on it for a while haha

An amazing mod to be sure. But is there a chance for a version that just moves those npcs as soon as you finish the quest? To avoid silent or synth dialogues and to appeal to purists more?

you mean like, right after you turn in the quest to get the reward, it activates the new NPCs automatically without having to talk to anyone? :o I'm sure its possible to do that, yeah! though unfortunately it would be a long time before I could make/release it, because the mod would need to essentially be totally rebuilt behind-the-scenes, as in I would need to either rewrite the scripts and stuff or make new ones entirely you know?

anyway, thanks for the comment! :) you actually reminded me that I forgot to mention the silent dialogue in the description of the mod, now I feel silly cause pretty big thing to overlook in retrospect haha!

      (edited for clarity)

No worries , i appreciate the prompt response and if you can make that kind of "purist" version happen. Ill be anticipating it happily. Keep up the good mods coming! :D

I'm looking forward to trying this out. The main and side quests depopulate Crucible in particular, so it'll be nice to see some new faces!

glad to hear it, I hope you enjoy! :) I agree, walking around Crucible and seeing all of 5 NPCs left after the quests is so sad! I mean, sure the city is supposed to be sad, but not that sad, eh? :')

:) right?? when I heard the idea, I immediately jumped on it! I've always found it difficult to add new NPCs into cities (any city really, but especially in New Sheoth) since the space is so limited, so any way around the problem is neat!

oh for sure, I hope you enjoy it! :) It was a lot of fun making it, many thanks to you in return! that mod I mentioned when you brought up this idea, Imperial Real Estate, is one of my favorite Oblivion mods so the fact something like it didn't exist for the Shivering Isles is honestly pretty surprising in retrospect!
