I realy love this mod, it add to the immersion when I'm exploring caves and dungeons. I usually play with a lowest GAMMA setting so I cannot see anything without torch or lanterne. The only thing that I found unfortunate is the fact that I cant realy combat as a fighter with a shield with a lantern equipte.
It would be nice to have an option just like in Dragon Dogma Dark Arisen, where your lantern is on you waist when you combat. Notice that I also like to have it in hand.
I've tried Denglong, it's a pretty nice paper lantern, but it's got butterfly sprites flying out of it while you're carrying it around. I tried removing them, but failed because I don't know the whole scripting thing well enough (or maybe it's something else entirely, either way, I couldn't remove the butterflies). Mudan I haven't tried, but I'm guessing it should be quite similar, since it's apparently from the same author. Anyway, good to know you found some resorces for actual Morrowind lanterns. Hoping for the best! :)
Well, yeah. But like I've said, I'll take what I can get. Still, if you really want to make the proper Dunmer lanterns, you should check out the mod called Dunmerized Cheydinhal, it's got several static lantern meshes available. Only problem is that you'll probably need to ask the author for permissions. Or possibly USD Tamriel Resource Pack, though I'm not sure if it has any Dunmer lanterns.
I like the look of the lanterns from Dunmerized Cheydinhal. I'll probably keep them this size to match what's in Dunmerized Cheydinhal. If I can use them.
I really like your mod, but i just noticed that the paper lantern added in interior cells float above furniture. Do you think it's possible to fix this?
yea I know about that I haven't figured that out yet. i thought it's a collision issue but I can't seem fix with out mess up how the lanterns fall when dropped
Those look good, although the size of the lanterns bothers me. If this isn't too much to ask, any chance they could be resized without messing with the handle?
I left the size of the lanterns to match there static counter parts in the game world. I had originally made them smaller, but they ended up not looking right. The only ones I made smaller was the ones from a Morrowind style lantern resource. As is now if I went though to resize them it would be a whole new project. On a side not I looked up real word example of medieval hand held lanterns when working on this mod and a lot of them where huge.
I'm just saying the real world example I seen online where huge. I can't say if they where heavy or not. I assume that they might be a little hefty though based on some materials I seen, but that being said just like today folks would have made them as light as possible using the technology and methods used at that time.
ok well try to reinstall manually but make sure texture and mesh folders are installed in the data folder. With out a mod manger program these might install the outside the data folder if unzipped directly under the Bethesda Softworks\Oblivion folder and not going into Bethesda Softworks\Oblivion\data folder.
Boss is good to use, but that just for sorting esp's and wouldn't help with textures and meshes
I reinstalled and now the torch and lantern are fixed and look good. but fighters guild lantern icon is broken and I still cant buy them. can i spawn them with the console?
Since your not using a mod manger you have to have the esp as low in the load order as possible as other mods are interfering the with chest that the lantern where put into; in this case the vendor chest. Put the esp close to the bottom and let me now if they start showing up after a while
I recommend setting your textures to large that might fix the icon issue.
The torches I'm not surprised you can buy with out issues as there already in almost every vendor chest in game. They just where never given a value so the player never could for purchase them before.
I moved them to the bottom and can I only buy the lanterns from the very bottom mod (the paper lantern one). I'll try installing with OBMM and see if I can buy lights from both mods(I got LightYourWay InsantiySorrow Edition and morrowind paper lanterns) Do I need the first lightyourway to buy them? also large texture size did fix the icons thank you =]
It might be a matter of waiting a few days ingame to see if the items show up now
You don't need the first mod at all. LightYourWay InsantiySorrow Edition and morrowind paper lanterns are stand a long mods.
Go to hear about the icons
If you decide to start using Wrye Bash the mods should already have the bash tags {{BASH:Invent.Add,Invent.Remove}} marked, which would make the items show at shops with even with the proper load order applied. Wrye Bash make a special esp that forces changes made by any other mods work together "most of the time".
I got wrye and installed the mods rebuilt the patch but the mods only had Bash Tags : Invent.Add. Should I add the other tags? I Can only buy LightYourWay InsantiySorrow Edition items. Thanks for the help!
I have all the mods running and everything is there including items from an unreleased light mod i made so I'm not sure. Check to see it you can find other items at Jensine's "Good As New" Merchandise and The Copious Coinpurse if not wait for 3 to 5 days in a different town or cell. If not then add the tag Invent.Remove and possibly Relev. If the items still haven't shown up after let me know.
one other thing to try would be going back to save before you installed the mods and then check the shops but first use boss to reorganize you load order then build the bash patch and play from there.
I ran BOSS and this Is what it showed me. Is this the order I should put them in?
never mind this is my current load order.

Well your load order mirrors mine in in regards to
Morrowind Style Paper Lantern.esp Active
LightYourWay.esp Active
So that look good. Do you have the bash patch at the very bottom off all your mods. I do that even if boss tries to put unrecognised plugins below that patch and everything works like it should
Odd try rebuilding then starting the game. I'm in the middle of posting an all in one esp file for Morrowind Style Paper Lantern.esp, Medieval Torch.esp, and LightYourWay.esp so I'll be here for bit.
That might not be the issue. Just use boss again use the load order it tells ya. Then rebuild the patch. Then see if will play. But some time a save can be corrupted and can cause that issue. In that case you will have to delete the save that causes the issue, most of the time it the most recent save.
I just had a wonderful idea for a mod that, if no one else takes, I'll work on myself.
I want to donate a septim to light a candle in a chapel. Have a table with 50 of the white candles (obviously in rising rows 5 deep 10 wide with the deep rising...) and activate one with a yes no donate dialogue. The candle stays lit for 72 hours and goes out again. It gives the blessing of charity like the donation bowl mod. I'd happily donate money to anyone who could make this mod happen. Uber bonus points for two or three randomly lit candles that change.
Can you place the lantern in your home permantently instead of carrying it around? I live in a dark cave player home, and I'm trying to find a way to put a torch or lantern down to light it up so I don't have to use Night Eye just to find my own bed. Tried a "drop lit torches" mod, but the torch disappeared as soon as I left my home :/
Beautiful lanterns, btw! Might install it just because of that.
I have one issue with it though. All lamps from this mod are only half as bright as a torch. I use other mods for visuals, ENB and darker dungeons etc. Using a light source is a necessity for me when adventuring - with a torch I can barely see what's right ahead of me in dungeon, which is cool. The problem is that using any of your lamps is not practical in my case because they're much inferior to a torch in terms of light range.
Do lamps in this mod have shorter light distance by design? Or is this a problem with other mods somehow? Is there any way that their range could be increased?
Beautiful work, only the whole lantern clips straight through my character's thigh as she walks. Could be incompatible with High Heels plug-in? Too bad . . .

I gave my endorsment, good work !
If you want an optional wearable lantern I recommend Wearable Lanterns of Tamriel. It works well along side my mod.
Add Dunmer paper lanterns, and it's perfect!
I've not tried these, but here are two paper lantern mods
Chinese lantern denglong

The lanterns are from this mod:

Another question about icons. What is your texture size set to small, medium, or large
(great looking light btw)

And no problem the best way to learn is to ask questions
