Weapon Reach And Speed Overhaul

Detailed Description

Are you frustrated with your character getting miraculously hit by enemies wielding a two-handed warhammer, when there is what could be perceived as a one-metre gap between the head of the hammer and your character? That happens because the reach of every generic warhammer is set to be the same as that of a claymore by default, even though its actual length is shorter than that of a longsword. Most weapons (dagger, mace, war axe, etc.) exhibit similar discrepancy, i.e. their reach is longer than their actual length.

Weapon Reach And Speed Overhaul (WRASO) solves the problem by enabling the user to conveniently modify the reach and the speed of all melee weapons in vanilla Oblivion and Shivering Isles to better match their actual length and physics. This is done solely by a script that runs just once whenever a game is loaded; that is, the mod does not alter any of the weapon records. Therefore, it should be compatible with most other mods, even mods that directly modify the weapon records, and the performance hit is non-existent.

The default values in the INI file should be adequate for most users. Should a user wish to fine tune the weapon reach or simply want to experiment with having claymores that project a 100-metre directed force field when they are swung, they can do so via the INI file provided by the mod. The swing speed of each melee weapon type can also be modified. Note that if the speed of a weapon type differs from that in the original weapon record, the script automatically adjusts the base damage of the weapon to maintain the weapon's damage per second (DPS).

Version
  • v2.0 - Completely redesigned the method the script relies on to identify a weapon, rendering it compatible with most gameplay-overhaul mods.
  • v1.0 - First release.

Requirement

Installation
Unzip the file in your Oblivion "Data" directory and activate the mod, or install it using your favourite mod manager. An OMOD file is also provided, which can be installed using OBMM. As the mod does not contain any edit in the weapon records, the load order is inconsequential.

Compatibility
  • Version 2.0 should be compatible with most mods, including mods that change the weapon records extensively, such as OOO and MOBS. Note that the mod affects all the weapons in the base game and the Shivering Isles expansion only.  Weapons added by other mods will not be affected.
  • Version 1.0 is incompatible with mods that change the weapon records extensively, particularly the weapon reaches and swing speeds, such as OOO and MOBS.
