1. Delete all previous Oblivion folders, including install folder, %LocalAppData%\Oblivion, Documents\My Games\Oblivion 2. Fresh installation of Oblivion + Shivering Isles GOG version 3. Install MERP 026 (works fine) 4. Install MERP 0265 (works fine) 5. Install latest xOBSE version (tried original OBSE version as well, no difference) 6. Copy files from MERP PLUS 0.373 FULL to MERP folder, all files are overwritten 7. Launch MERP Launcher, configure settings to very low, data files load order configured as depicted by the screenshot in your post (not using middle earth grasses, although it doesn't seem to matter either way) 8. Game crashes before it gets to the menu. All plugins work except for MERPAdditions.esp, once this one is added the game will crash before the menu.
Using win11 with a fast computer, game installed on SSD. Up to date graphics drivers (AMD). 4gb patcher not necessary with GOG version, although I tried using it anyway and it doesn't make a difference. MessageLog.txt depicts the following errors:

EDIT: Got it working by installing through MO2, manual install was not working no matter what I did.
1. Delete all previous Oblivion folders, including install folder, %LocalAppData%\Oblivion, Documents\My Games\Oblivion 2. Fresh installation of Oblivion + Shivering Isles (I used GOG version) 3. Install MERP 026 normally 4. Install MERP 0265 update normally 5. Install latest xOBSE version into MERP folder and overwrite all files 6. Install MO2 normally, point to MERP folder 7. Install MERP Plus FULL through MO2 8. Right click MERP Plus FULL > Open in explorer. Copy OBSE folder directly into base game folder\data. Overwrite all files. If you don't overwrite files, you didn't install it in the correct location. 9. Navigate to OBSE folder you just copied the files to and delete EnhancedMusicControl.dll and SoundCommands.dll 10. Right click MERP Plus FULL > Information > File tree. Right click OBSE folder and hide. 11. Install MERP Plus Brandy Brandywine if you want 12. Configure MO2 load order as follows:
13. Add MERP launcher executable to MO2. Check "force load libraries" and add Oblivion.exe as the process and OBSE_1_2_416.dll as library to load. 14. Launch game through MO2 using MERP launcher. Configure graphics settings as desired. Click "data files" and activate all mods, matching the load order above.
Well… THANK YOU a lot for the effort!!!! And the detailed report! I have been working on it for long… adding versions over versions… impossible to tell what needs or not to be done :/
The error messages are not much relevant as far as I can tell, then refer to objects and places which are unused in the actual gameplay.
Er… what is "MO2"?
I stopped working on it when hitting a bug I was unable to fix… Minas Tirith model is HUGE, and… the full-res model tends to "disappear" out of sight when the player goes away. BUT the NPCs I added up there (the Fountain Guards) do not… so they fall down to the ground :( It may be possible or not to fix this by piecing the 3D model, but I don't know how to manage the whole thing by then. Anyway, I hope you'll have fun (more than by having it working) exploring around. Start as a Hobbit, I did not develop the other possible Players. And it is more of a "Visiting Middle-Earth" experience than a full game :)
MO2 stands for Mod Organizer 2, one of the tools which can be used to mod Oblivion along with most of the other Bethesda games. I did have fun! Shame that the original mod did not get developed further but it's at least nice seeing some of your additions, nice work!
Thank you for the information! And I am happy you had fun with it :) And there are LOTS of SMALL things to be found around, which were put there by the original team and are not obvious at all. After years of running around -and modding- I found the actual place for the Barrow-Downs, with the standing stone. Also discovered recently statues and small public plazas in Pelargir. Exploring ALL the Moria, even when it was empty (save for the Balrog) and unfinished, needed me weeks to map. Etc… Still lots of places missing, such as Edoras where I just added the front gate and Meduseld. Same for Erebor, which just has a fake front entrance… and a great throne room very close to the movie, but needing the console to access. Once in a while I "go back" to The Shire, which is a pure delight to roam around. The Team had done all the landscape, but it was empty. Hobbit holes had not even a collision map. I added lots there, beginning with the Green Dragon Inn.
5.0GB?!?? WTF? It's necessary download those 5.0GB? totally horrible the stretched textures of the mountains, not to mention the Slide 5 and the others. In real life you wouldn't see those kind of mountains with the stretched textures and all the ugly ones that don't feel natural. Be more realistic next time
Dude 5GB is nothing. if you wanted Hi res 2k,4k textures and everything under the sun it would probably be 30GB. and the game probably would lag like a son of gun. Some peoples children. I just like the concept of an open world LOTR game
Than you for the support… bit It does lag  ! Game engine too old, and limited to DX9, but well, ONLY place where you can visit The Green Dragon Inn, Bag-End, the Hall of Kings and several more, as close as possible to the movie set!
ok, here is the city of dale, esgaroth creature dragon smaug in gold room erebor and how many percent of the mod merp plus is left to finish or which part is working on the mod merp plus?
Well… LOTS are missing, but lots are there to explore. I'd say the main part currently is to follow the book and try to find which parts are there and which are missing… I spent MONTHS exploring it, initially. Ok, this is not really a reply to your question, but it is impossible to reply… Initially, the O-MERP Team (lots of people, all disappeared now) had done the geography of the world, from Harondor in the south to Forochel in the north, and from Mordor to the Shire. The Shire itself was quite advanced, but Bree was the ONLY town in the game almost fully done (houses and NPC), though there were lots of bugs. The Moria was quite advanced too, if empty and with lots of bugs too. Minas Tirith, Minas Morgul and Barad-Dur were there, but exteriors only, and only Minas Tirith could be visited. Oh yes, Pelargir was there (houses, no interiors, guards). Dale, but no Interiors. A few more things here and there. Some dungeon close to the Last Bridge, buggy too. First I added a Goblin cave to the exterior of a Goblin Fort, north of Rivendell (there was no Rivendell at all), then the Dimrill Stairs. Then I fixed all bugs in Bree. Fixed all the Hobbit holes which had no collision mesh. Fixed the Moria, and later added several zones and populated it with Goblins and Trolls. Built the Green Dragon Inn which was missing. Built the interior of Bag-End and the tunnels. Changed Orthanc to a better exterior, and added interiors, Saruman, a quest, etc. I added something at Rivendell, then the High Pass, and Goblin Town. I dug roads here and there, notably between Minas Tirith and Pelargir, and between Orthanc and The Shire, and to the Moria. Added a market on the Last Bridge. Fixed the dungeon by the Last Bridge. Added LOTS of wildlife in lots of regions. Added interiors (populated) to Barad-Dur and Minas Morgul. Recently I added a Player's house south of Long-lake, and built the Hall of Kings, as close as the movie as I could, plus some quest to visit Harondor Desert which I had populated.
As to finish it… impossible. I am alone at it, and there is NO end to Middle-Earth :) Currently on hold, as I had problems.
- means that someone is helping you to complete the Merp Plus project besides you
- but don't forget to add smaug and erebor room because among middle earth it's the most popular among all people who like EREBOR because it's a nice city and the big room is wide and high
- but this is my first visit to middle earth, namely the MINECRAFT game on the mcmiddleearth and ardacraft servers and others.
Nobody helping me… but I certainly could use any help!!! Smaug is dead at the time of LoTR, which is the same for O-MERP. Erebor I considered… you can see the front "door" of it from Dale, copied from the movie, but there is no entrance. There IS the Throne Room, but it is not linked and need a console command to enter it.
Minecraft seems interesting, but the resolution of the 3D models is too low.
The main part of O-MERP is roaming around and check the places which are there (not all, by far)!! Remember the geography IS as close as possible as any map of Middle-Earth could be. Except smaller… no 400 miles from Minas Tirith to Rivendell! Dale is easy to find. If you start from The Shire, go east via Bree, the Last Bridge (avoiding the Nazgûls patrolling) then upstream the Bruinen to Rivendell and the High Pass (beware the Stone Giants) and you can visit Goblin Town by nosing around the High Pass. Go down the Misty Mountains until the Anduin. The Carrock isn't far, along with Beorn grounds. Proceed eastwards through Mirkwood until out of it, where you'll find the Celduin River. Go upstream and you'll find Esgaroth on the Long Lake (not much there), then Dale. It makes a good trip, without much problems except between Bree and the Last Bridge. Oh yes… big nasty spiders in and around Mirkwood…
Erebor main hall name is… EreborMainHall (beware the caps). To go there, invoke the console then type coc EreborMainHall To go out (not too far), invoke the console and type: coc MELaketownGuardHouse
Currently I am not working more on O-MERP, sorry. Dol Guilder you can find at its usual place, going downstream the Anduin from The Carrock. Not much there except the hill, the fortress up there (exterior only) and a spooky vegeration.
Hi, the first thing i want to say is FINALLY i found a mod that fully overhaul Oblivion at world space aspect and also compatible with Craftybits. But the file size looks tremendous to me. Can you tell me what is this mod requirement? Does need beefy gigs to run, since i'm playing Oblivion on my 10 year olds laptop, and can squeeze out 30-45 fps in Cyrodil world space. Btw, Is MERP stand for Middle Earth Role-Playing?
Yes, likely the ONE overhaul+CraftyBits ;) Read the post just below for a few details about O-MERP. The initial Team (gone for long) intended it for "Middle-Earth Role-Playing" which, btw, is also a copyrighted commercial game. Hence the acronym and not the full name. Anyway, they stopped very early in the development, with lots missing, bugs, etc. The requirements are detailed under the Description tab of the mod, and YES, it needs the GBs of data. Just consider there are 100000+ exterior cells, when the whole map in Vanilla is around 10000 exterior cells, and Tamriel fits only part of it. The Moria itself needs 58 minutes (real time) to RUN from Durin's Door to Dimrill Gate, by the shortest route, and avoiding any foe-populated area. You will need a good video chip, too, though the limitations come mostly from the game engine. The game itself (Oblivion) is OLD but runs on XP up to Win10 (and likely Win11). It uses only DirectX 9, which does not help the fps. You'd better have a 64-bit OS with at least 8GB RAM and apply all the patches mentioned in the requirements…
Now, if you WANT to visit Bag-End, as close as possible as the movie, you have no alternative. I tested LOTRo and likely for copyright stuff, nothing in there looks even remotely close to the movie. Not mentioning a number of extremely dumb choices which make the game deadly boring. For a test, you can try my Orthanc V2 for Tamriel and have a whiff of O-MERP in Vanilla ;) Mind you, the textures for the Library are HEAVY and need a few minutes to load.
100000 cells looks promisingly to me as i think Cyrodiil should be bigger but only 10000-ish cells. Gonna download and i play this mod after i build my desktop. Btw, as you said on below comment. Since the installation will be held at specific folder, it remind me about Mount and Blade: Warband modding folder as it call "Module" each module is each overhaul mod has it own world space and content.
First things first: MERP is a TOTAL overhaul of TES4, adding a whole new world which is Middle-Earth in the time of Lord of the Rings.
The installation process will create a specific folder, copy files from your TES4 folder, and add files of its own. So you'll end with ANOTHER game. Hence, no compatibility issues with anything you installed in TES4. I suggest to create a special User to install it, else you'll have to manually manage the ini files, saved games and such. I do it… and have at least three different TES4 on the same computer: MorrowOblivion, OOO, MERPPlus.
MERP over Oblivion (O-MERP) was orphaned in February 2012. I started messing with it mid-2018 and added LOTS since then. Still way to go of course. If you want to help, you'll be more than welcome :)
The installation itself is a bit complex. To begin with, you need the base O-MERP as MERPPlus builds upon it: https://www.nexusmods.com/oblivion/mods/29214 BUT, the files available there are not complete. Check this post: #1529
Next, you'll need MERPPlus itself https://www.nexusmods.com/oblivion/mods/48823/?tab=files for a first install, the Full 0.373 should do. I tested it good, but it is still possible some objects and textures are missing, which were introduced by previous versions :/ Check also the requirements and advised downloads. https://www.nexusmods.com/oblivion/articles/44381
I wrote an How To Install, but shall update it asap: https://www.nexusmods.com/oblivion/articles/44381
keep up the the good work and know its appreciated. Think of all that work the original MERP team put in from scratch in landscape, mapping, layout, armor, quests etc. I appreciate your contribution, in a way its also you showing respect and admiration of the MERP team as well, just wish we all could've supported them more, I am far from the most knowledgeable person on the team, and project. The hurdles, years of all their volunteer time to create something for themselves, and to share with others a passion project that a vast majority would've been able to enjoy for years. I am also not a avid, or capable modder, I have dabbled in the creationkit a time or two, followed some of the basic turtorials and have never felt skilled or accomplished in the creation process, always felt a lack of knowledge and understanding in putting the pieces together to build my mod, like you guys do, I cant imagine how the troubleshooting process works if one part of the mod fails to work, how to isolate it to being a single issue. You guys rock!
I will be keeping a close eye on this. Seems interesting enough, though quite the task, which I am sure the original mod makers thought as well. A shame really that so few people made an attempt at combining middle-earth and tamriel, especially when you add to the fact that Oblivion was heavily inspired by Tolkien's world.
Thank you! I hope you'll enjoy it. It sure is -for me- extremely pleasant to roam Middle-Earth and all those places :) Sure is A TASK, especially now with just me at it… (btw, I am open to any contribution!!)
I plan soon a "full" update, with everything I published gathered into one zip. It will help a lot the new visitors!

Wish i could contribute anything to this project.. i am not a gifted modder though - more the lore-person than the engineer ;)
keep it up
If you find problems (missing texture or model, whatever) please tell me!
It sure is -for me- extremely pleasant to roam Middle-Earth and all those places :)
Sure is A TASK, especially now with just me at it… (btw, I am open to any contribution!!)
I plan soon a "full" update, with everything I published gathered into one zip. It will help a lot the new visitors!
