You hit the nail on the head by calling it a "bizarre" bug. I have no idea what could cause that. My hunch is it's an engine bug, not a script bug. I have not looked at, or thought of, this mod for years. It's more or less dead/as-is. But, maybe I'll feel like developing it again one day.
Let me fess up: this is a bug on my part. Having said that, I have no idea what causes it. This mod is unmaintained, in an unfinished state, and abandoned—permanently.
I do not intend to come across as aggressive or rude by saying that. To be presumptuous...
I do appreciate feedback from users, but will not act on it other than answer questions that I can (after 7 years of no development).
So, why would it be that when I unsheathe my weapon, I drop the torch (Bad design if intentional) and have to double tap E to pick it up? (Also bad design.)
I could understand when that happened while R was both unsheath & throw torch, but it still persists after changing keys. (Again, bad design.)
What's wrong with leaving it as the original was as far as dropping lit torches go, where dropping them from your inventory while equiped keeps them lit?
Nice addition, Dynamic Dlt works well in-game. Still, obse.log throws some warnings: "Reading mod list from co-save Loading strings WARNING : substantial numbers of string variables exist for the following files: (may indicate savegame boat): Dynamic DLT.esp (1133 strings) " There aren't more files than dynamic Dlt listed. And i didn't play too much, ( level 16 so far), also my mod list is pretty short (30). I downloaded your latest main file, of course
I don't remember the code. I don't even remember using strings in the mod. Sorry. The error is legit, unless it's a bug with OBSE (I doubt that), the mod can cause save game bloat. It could be cleaned up if I ever decided to resume development, but I don't think I will.
Is anyone aware of an incompatibility with Loot Menu? Normally, LM will allow you to highlight a container with your cursor, then press the "space" key to grab an item that is highlighted without opening the container. However, with Dynamic Drop Lit Torches enabled, using the space key still grabs the individual item, but also opens the container menu making the mod less than useful.
I checked my ini file and didn't see any hotkey conflicts with the space key. Just curious.
That said, and fabulous mod and I'm really enjoying it!
It's been so long since I looked at the scripts for this mod that I forget, to be frank. But, based on what I do remember, the space key is not used in this mod. I do not know Loot Menu's scripts either. So, if there is a conflict, it's likely with LMs scripts.
I know in this mod the activate key is scripted in ways. As it is in LM. It's the activate key though, not space. Other than that, I don't know.
Thanks, glad you like it. I would like to rewrite the throwing of torches so that gravity is at play in a more obvious way, but I highly doubt I ever will.
Well, if people's interest is any incentive, improved torch gravity would be great. I've been using this for years now and it does the job nicely. Thanks
I'm glad it does a mostly bug-free job of enriching your game. Re: torch gravity: I have to find a way to get back into Oblivion. As time goes by, the interest doesn't seem to rekindle. I check Nexus daily though, so that's something.
This mod doesn't seem to work. There is nothing to access the ingame menu. If I drop a torch it cannot be picked up again (this may be caused by the script to reduce save game bloat, idk). At any rate, not really what I need. I am looking more for just toggle torch and increase brightness. Thank you though.
There is a menu item to access the in-game menu. It has a flame on it. The torches can be picked up. That's vanilla behavior. You may have a mod conflict at work. I wouldn't release a mod that broken. The brightness can be changed via hotkey as well.
1) The torch config item doesn't do anything. I can drop it and pick back it up, but that's about it.
2) The torch disappears if you leave the area. I downloaded this so I could light up my dark cave home and not have to use Night Eye just to find my own bed. I dropped the torch and it lit up the room like heaven. Left my home, realized I forgot something, came immediately back in... and the torch was gone. Is this the intended behavior, or a glitch? Either way, I need to light up my home...
1) It worked last I looked at this mod. I have not received any reports about this to my knowledge. Having said those things, I haven't looked at the code in this mod for years (going on 5). Summary: I don't know. I'm slightly hesitant to say this, but I think this mod is dead. It's a use as-is mod. 2) That's by design. Dropping torches creates dynamic reference that can lead to save game bloat. I added code that deletes dynamic references, thus there is no impact on your save game size which could lead to CTDs. That's why your torch is gone when you go back. I should have made that option configurable. I can pretty much say I won't do that though. I don't play Oblivion much anymore. It's installed on my local drive though and I can't see the future, so it's possible I'll play again and even pick this mod up. This mod may not be for you.
Oh, all right! There is no problem, I was just wondering if I messed the things up here cuz I'm installing/uninstalling too many drop lit mods recently, lol... Yours is the best! Thanks!
Any idea how to make my character throw the torch further? I can barely throw it a couple of steps away when sneaking. A bit more when standing up but the torch acts like it hits a wall and falls when it's hitting nothing but air when sneaking and standing up.
Actually that is not configurable at the moment. I can make that user configurable, however. That will be real easy, and won't take but a second. I'll do that and release a new version where it is an option to configure how far you throw torches.
When i hotkey switch from sword and torch to bow the torch does NOT get dropped, instead it gets dropped when i put the bow on my back and when i switch back to sword instead it's back in my hand.
Good bug report, AHOwitch. I can tell just by your description it's on my end. I haven't looked at this mod in a long time, but I'm slowly getting my Oblivion installation up and running, so I will be taking a look at this mod eventually. I hope you can hang in there for a little bit. This is something that won't take but 10 minutes to fix (if that).
