Been a long time since I did anything on this page. Figured it was time to attempt getting things caught up a little. Uploaded an update for the Masterlist. This contains roughly 100 or so mods and patches added in. More to come soon. And that's the good news.
Bad news is it will likely be the last thing I upload to this site. Within a few days I will be moving this page to AFK Mods where it will join all of my other relocated projects. All future updates will take place on that site. Once the page is up feel free to post new requests over there.
I want to thank everyone who has supported this, and all of my other ventures over the years. You are and have been greatly appreciated.
Im curious; is there any harm in leaving the dlc disorganized? LOOT seems to keep the expansion + dlc in order, but BOSS pretty much scatters them everywhere.
Edit: Nevermind... i used the search feature and found author comments about it. Looks like its not an issue.
Ohh wow.... its been almost 3 years since your last update. BOSS has always been the Oblivion 'goto' for load order. I will keep an eye out on AFK mods for future updates to the Masterlist... Thanks :)
So I'm here to hopefully put the LOOT and BOSS debate to rest. I downloaded the latest version of LOOT and when I sorted it I can safely say I was impressed that it sorted everything unlike BOSS. However once I ran Oblivion I noticed a significant amount of more stutter even with the Stutter Remover. I also noticed that mods like Creature Diversity were not working as well. And some more unpopular mods were straight up not working at all.
Now once I installed the latest BOSS and sorted it all these problems vanished. Sure I needed to manually sort the unpopular plugins. But I can tell you from experience of using unpopular mods they are almost always required to be at the bottom of the load order anyway. Sometimes even below the bashed patch.
I can now safely say that BOSS is still a better sorter than LOOT for Oblivion. Although I have noticed LOOT is a lot better at sorting Oblivion than it used to be. But it still needs some work.
For most of us the issue was already at rest lol. I haven't updated this masterlist in a very long time, so there will be things that aren't recognized. Which is why they get sorted to the bottom.
The main issues with LOOT are that it a) has a tendency to sort some things differently every time it runs, and b) doesn't get the specific, long established order right for Oblivion. BOSS will place them wherever the masterlist says they need to go..every, single, time. And that is what needs to happen. Especially in the case of compatibility patches which depend on a specific order to function correctly.
If LOOT ever gets to that point then there is something new to discuss.
P.S. I really, really, really need to find time to update this again.
My main issue with BOSS is that it puts unrecognized plugins BELOW the bashed patch. If it would just put them above, I think most unrecognized plugins of the last year(s) wouldn't even cause many issues, especially with how many bash tags there are for mods, but below the patch is just bad.
That's not to say I'm not using BOSS, you'll have to pry it out of my cold, dead hands, I can't stand my load order changing :)
I'm sure that could be done laula but I don't know how. Never looked that deeply to see how BOSS makes the unrecognized files go to the bottom.
Along that train of thought: For myself, and others may agree, I'm just used to unrecognized mods going at the very bottom. There are recognized mods that get sorted below the Bash Patch also out of necessity. If unrecognized mods went above the BP, it may be confusing as to which are properly sorted.
IDK...just rambling thoughts. Unrecognized files have to go somewhere until they are added in. Bottom, top, middle, there will be pros and cons for any placement. If I knew how to edit where BOSS puts them we could play with it and refine the process.
Oh no, that was just a note from me, not a feature request. I think that can't be changed in the lists, only in the program itself.
I just too often see people that run BOSS, don't do anything else, have a fine load order and then 3 random mods after the bashed patch. Like say a potion texture replacer after the patch which totally ruins the potion value mod they have before it or something like that. My point being, [i]too many people don't add them in, ever[i/] or would just move them manually and then get it messed up again when they have to sort again. Perhaps that's frustration speaking, between people literally unable to find their downloaded files or realizing what a patch is (that has a missing master if you don't have the patched file), it feels like telling some to add two lines of text to the userlist is too hard, lol. People requiring a "one click be done don't think about it" approach is what I think is the reason for LOOT being more often recommended now.
That said, is there any way to help you? I'm not too familiar with the masterlist structure, as I mostly use ADD AFTER/BEFORE for my userlist, but I could perhaps look into it.
The kind offer of help is help in itself, truly. What I really need is to get more stuff cleared off my plate. I've made amazing progress towards that goal recently. Doing some limited updates to BOSS should be within reach very soon I think.
More to the point of answering your question, deathssoul reached out to me recently with the same question. I would love to see this like the old days with multiple people updating the list. But there were things in the masterlist I began restructuring. Those would first need to be completed to avoid unwanted confusion. Once that is rectified I would be happy to teach others and see BOSS continue on.
I"ve seen a lot of releases in the last days, great stuff :)
Do you still use the github repo? Would it for example help if I comment there, at least for my own mods (or other mods I might have tested) instead of here? It's probably not much with almost 1000 open issues. But any mod you wouldn't have to research yourself could probably give time to research another.
In the past I always used both Github and this page, and had a page on TAL also. You can post submissions on either and I'll catch them, once I have a free hand to resume doing this.
There's an issue with the load order of OCC-KOTN-Patch.esp & ROC - OCReborn Road Record.esp OCC-KOTN-Patch.esp needs to come after ROC - OCReborn Road Record.esp, otherwise its changes get overwritten in the bashed patch and the KOTN quests become broken again when using Open Cities.

First thanks for running this forum about BOSS.
I'd like to submit an unrecognized plugin:
Crowded Cities Redone - Cyrodiil Collection option no new houses
Here's the https://www.nexusmods.com/oblivion/mods/49316?tab=files
One esp named Crowded Cities Cyrodiil.esp
No bsa
That's the last option in the list. Uploaded 01/18/2020. I'll use LOOT meanwhile. It says bottom load order, just before bashed patch.
Many thanks in advance!

Unique Artifacts for Unique People.bsa
Unique Artifacts for Unique People.esp
Known placement considerations:
Must be before bashed patch.
Must be after unofficial patches, DLCs and unofficial DLC patches.
Replace Golden Saint and Dark Seducer armor ..
Boss can't recognize this mod put it below not in the masterlist .. must merge in wrye bash ..
