Thank you for the Endorsements & comments. It is really nice to have a "thank you" for your hard work & testing if it pleases.
    Foxy kisses for all.

If you have a version prior to 1.2, you need only replace the esp with the 1.2 version. The Meshes & Textures remain the same. This should keep the shady NPCs from making unprovoked attacks on Nicki.

I dont know if its just me. but i am having a issue.
You see i have 3 mods for companions (i am starting to think that i should use only 1 XD) Bjorn, Sym and Nicki.
The issue is that i can't find the fox. in the sewers was Bjorn and Sym was on a hill near Anvil wasnt they supposed to be all in the sewer?
I truly want Nicki to help the Divine Crusader in his travels cleaning nirn of evil but i cant find him.

"cries and runs towards the monster enslaving nirn" Btw Sir Gareth. KoTN revelations

Nicky is a bit shy & is often IN the bush to the right of the boat dock in front of the sewer exit to the right a bit. It can be hard to see him in there if you are not expecting it. He can also be behind you if you are looking into that bush. He roams around a bit to your right when you emerge from the sewer. It is roughly the same area where Bjorn roams, though Bjorn is large enough to stick out of the bush. ;-D

They all roam a little & the rabbit & cats even go under water occasionally, but Bjorn & Nicky have always stuck to that bush & directly behind it towards the IC within about 15 yards. I never see them in the water or to the right of the 2 large boulders either.

It is also possible that you forgot to add his meshes & textures, or to check his esp before playing. (Blush. I still do that sometimes when I get into a hurry.) Having 3 companions (even 4 of mine) have worked very well for me, so I do not think having 3 is too many. The more complex humanoid companions can be more problematic for your game though & you may not be able to have 3 or 4 of the animal ones without having one get behind a lot. A humanoid & one, or possibly two, animal companions seem to work well though.

      Good luck. ;-)

      I found him!!!
He was on the dock and he was invisible. I just found him coz i fired the "midas sun burst" from midas magic spells of aurum, in all directions until i hit something. Witch was him.
I appreciate the time that you took to ansewer my distress call.

Uh, oh. He is never supposed to be invisible. Your meshes & Textures must not be installed correctly. Your Read Me should give you their correct address. I have never seen him on the dock before, though I recently saw him go into the water for the 1st time. ;-)

I only 'found' Nicki a little way into my game (as in, just noticed this mod :-) ) but he seems happy enough to travel with my character even though she's a fighter/mage not a ranger.

Lovely work Zella. I looked at all your animal companion mods, but couldn't resist adding this little fox.

    Heartily endorsed.

I am happy that you enjoy Nicky. He is so cute & happy that really grows on you.

My characters are usually fighter/mages also. The ranger's fox was the "lore" that gave him the justification to have some defensive spells put on him & some training in tactics for fighting. I made my mods so that we could have pets that we could take everywhere & not have to leave them safe at home, or constantly worry about their safety in an attack.

I find that he makes me happy & he is becoming my favorite companion even though he is not the strongest fighter & doesn't purr. I love the way he goes "Whuff" when you take out a bandit that is attacking him & joyfully prances up to you as if to say ""Good job, now what is next?"
      ;-D

Just a thank-you for this mod. Nicki is a brave and faithful companion--and also very cute. He's the perfect pal for Anda, my Bosmer archer--Nicki is very good at distracting attackers and providing some protection while Anda uses her bow. He's also very observant: more than once his little growl has alerted Anda to the presence of a hidden enemy. (I play with the music turned off, so as not to have an unrealistic warning of upcoming enemies). And your latest version did eliminate the problem of people attacking Nicki.

I love Nicki, but, after using this mod for a few hours, I have twice encountered a strange thing: NPCs may attack the little fox! No less a person than one of the Surilie brothers jumped up from the bench he was sitting on, cast some sort of protection spell, and began flailing at Nicki with a sword! I just stood there in confusion; a town guard intervened and killed Mr. Surilie! A similar incident occurred with some minor NPC in Bravil. I wonder what is happening? Why would these random people attack a charming creature like Nicki??

I am looking into that TODAY! I have played with him for months without this ever happening, & all of the sudden this is happening to me also. Poor Nicki! He is so sweet and devoted to you & it is so unfair.

Could you tell me which version you are using, please.
I am sure it is the 1.1 version that is causing my problem. I need to know if the other one is working well.
[Ed. BOTH versions have this problem.]

I am looking into this as it should not happen. (For the time being, Fast Travel out of the area or leave the room to break off an altercation. Fortunately he is Essential & will heal quickly.)
Even better, use the automatic save from when you entered the room, or the gate, to back out of the situation. Probably best, for the time being, is to leave Nicki outside of cities & especially out of low to mid class taverns.

Thank you very much for reporting this, I thought it was some mod I had just added to make this sudden change, but now I am sure that that it is Nicki's mod that needs replacing & will be working on a remedy.

Thanks for this quick response. I hope you can discover the real cause. I guess I'll leave Nicki behind when I go shopping. I don't want any more casualties due to this strange fox-phobia.

But which version are you having the problem with????

I need to know which one is likely the problem. Since it suddenly began, I think it is the version 1.1 with the sneak & 50 point healer's spell.

      Thank you for helping!

This is a lot worse than I thought. I remade the mod from scratch & tested it, & also the original version, on a vanilla Data set up, to be certain that another mod was not influencing this one. But they BOTH still have this problem. It sounds like a conflicting Faction problem, but Nicki is ONLY in the Player faction, which is standard for companions. Perhaps I did not have this problem before because I spent little time it towns then.

I need to do a LOT of testing to track down the cause of this.

Using the original esp (V 1.0) will not help you now.
Leaving him outside of cities or having a 'save' in case there is an incident would be prudent until I discover how to deal with this.
Leaving the area, or Fast Traveling. will cause him to break off the fight.
You can usually revert to the automatic save when you entered the door of city gate.
This happens a lot in mid to low class taverns.
There is a crazy lady outside the Anvil chapel who always attacks the Oblivion Cats until the guard kills her. I don't recall any other NPCs doing that with that mod however. I had assumed she was one of those sleeper Mythic Dawn members who attacked the Player unexpectedly & perhaps she is, but this is worse. The Surilie Brothers never did that to the Oblivion Cats as I recall, so this is a lot worse.

Nicki does not initiate the fight but only responds to an attack to defend himself. I almost always hear a weapon drawn or see a spell activated BEFORE he goes into action, so it appears that something causes NPCs to attack him & I need to discover what it is. I will be working on this but I do not know how long it will take to discover the problem & the fix. Thank you again for helping. ;-)

Yes, I noticed that Nicki does not attack--he is definitely the victim. I shall probably solve this in the short run by leaving him near the gate, or at my player home (when I get one), and summoning him when I'm outside of towns. I can also always run a distance away and then summon Nicki to the new location. I hope you discover the cause of this anomaly but it's manageable in the meantime.

      I am so sorry.
The Flowing Bowl is a sure place to trigger this.

Attack is supposed to be triggered by the size of the personality plus the Faction, but giving him a Personality of 100 does not stop it. It only makes him not defend himself. Nothing I have tried has the slightest effect. I need to find someone who can explain this.

***Ed. Well, remaking the mod from scratch many times, until the CS forgot to sabotage it, seems to have fixed the problem. Changing anything in the mod did not.

You only need to download the new esp & replace the old one to cure this problem. The meshes & textures stay the same.****
Thank you for sticking in there with me. ;-)

Can I ask what is the name of the armour mods displayed in the pictures? They're probably listed somewhere in the description but I can't see them.

Those screen shots were taken by goranpaa, & I have asked him to see if he can remember the name. He will probably tell me tomorrow.
      Tomorrow:
He says it is Shadow armor pack 01 and 02 by Andragorn. He is doing an upgrade now & is not sure exactly which of those 2 packs has that particular armor. But he says both packs have very good armors.

This new version are great! I had the opportunity to download and test him this eve. I will keep the new Fox, even though I liked the original one much too.

You have become a master of making this animal companions indeed.

Thank you for letting us know that it works well for you. It really helps me to make them better when I hear how they are working in different game set ups and for different playing styles. As I learn better ways to make the mods, I will try to upgrade the old ones or provide alternative versions. ( I also really like this version a lot better. )
