Heavy armour should actually reduce resistance to the elements, considering how metal reacts to temperature and electricity.

So I have some suggestions: Each piece of heavy has a small reduction to elemental resistance, but the speed de-buff is less severe. And it could protect a bit more against physical damage. Chain should also be included as a heavy armour, as real chainmail is heavy, made of metal and gives good protection to the wearer.
This would also make room for different play strategies. Are you fighting mages? Wear light armour. Are you fighting a knight? Blast him with magic. Are you fighting bandits? Use that heavy steel armour.

You are more than welcome to make the edits you want but I haven't touched this mod in a decade.

No metal armor I have ever seen is worn right up against the skin, so I don't think there's any reason for it to give penalties. Metal armor is worn in very hot and very cold climates without causing any extra problems for the wearer, in terms of burning themselves or whatever you are worried about.

Of course no real metal armor would give much protection against getting struck by lightning either, but I was imagining in a fantasy setting where you are fighting mages with electric powers you could construct the metal like a faraday cage to conduct the electricity into the ground.

I agree that debuffs could be a bit much, but I love the idea of some armor being better suited to certain enemies.

I'm using a costume changer as well so re-equipping would be quick...

if anybody makes this I would be very interested

I'm having an issue with this mod. When I installed it and loaded a clean save, my character received the unarmored Shield bonus. However, after many hours of play (equipment-swapping and leveling Acrobatics), that bonus has not changed at all. The magnitude of the effect is the same as when it was first applied and the magic resistances from light/heavy armor and shields have never been seen.

As of writing, my character is wearing four pieces of heavy armor and is empty-handed, but there's no visible shock resistance and the unarmored bonus is still present.

Edit: Un-commenting the last line in the INI successfully removes the bonus, but I can't get the mod to apply a whole new bonus.

Edit 2: So I did a complete reinstall of the mod to see if I could brute-force it to apply a new effect, now the mod appears to work as intended. This whole time my character was missing the "Armor Skill Bonuses" ability. I think my character lost it when I changed her race before leaving the imperial prison sewer at the beginning of the game; that would explain why the initial effect and its magnitude were made permanent.

Also, just to answer an old question, this mod appears to work brilliantly with uncapper mods. I set my unarmored bonus to reach 85 at 100 Acrobatics, the bonus is now 88 with Acro at 104.

    Hi, it's me again.

I don't know if you're still working on this, but I was wondering if this works OK with uncapper mods (in the middle of reinstalling Oblivion and all my mods).

    Hey Kesidu,
Glad you found initial glow. I have no intention of removing the glow effect with this mod. It's beyond the purview of this mod really.

With regard to the changing equipment, I could make it so that the armor effect updates in menumode as well as gamemode in the next version of the mod. I had not intended to, as it seemed like overkill. If you feel it would be a significant improvement it could be made to work that way though.

    Thank you for your comments.

I just tried this. Great idea, but I have two reservations:

Is there anyway to get rid of the glow effect when you're unarmoured?

When changing equipment, your true armour rating only shows up after you close and reopen your inventory, since you have to apply the unarmoured effect first I assume.

Good luck with this mod nonetheless.

    Edit

I've figured out that Initial Glow will take care of the constant glowing effect. Now I only glow whenever I get hit.

I am really excited about trying this mod. I often play unarmored characters, but often feel the need to train Alteration up to compensate, due to Shield spells, even when the overall character concept is not magically inclined. So, thanks.
