As it stands right now, it is basically 3 ASP pages with all the coding inter-locked between them from page-to-page.
As the dependencies grew and grew to make a better-working generator, the complexity also grew and is now fairly painful to re-work anything. Adding a line item here and there is no biggie but if I had to re-do this again...ouch.
If I did re-do this again, I'd use a database back-end and simply let the database tables and their relationships steer the data structure rather than it being code-driven. That would allow it to more-easily be modified to become a readme generator for different games...Morrowind, FO3, DA, etc. I would need to sit down and re-think how the pages are designed and how the data would need to be pulled from the database so it would be easy to simply add a new game to the database and have the code simply pull from a different game key value to see an entirely new set of options. That would also allow me to open up the database to be administered by people from different game platforms so they could keep the generator up-to-date as new patches, tools and such are released.
I'll contemplate this further but it probably cannot be programmed this summer since there are too many things going on that cut into my hobby time...and I find it very difficult to program worth anything late at night (well, I used to be able to in college but those years are long gone and I'm almost to the point where I need naps in the afternoon...hahaha)
Is there a chance of us getting a Morrowind-specific version of the Readme Generator? I could probably whip one up myself, but it would be in PHP instead of ASP.
No, it is still the same 'ol online generator. I've been updating all my mod pages, wiki info pages, etc. because I am sick and tired of all my "Release Threads" being deleted at Bethsoft so I am making PERMANENT comment threads here at the Nexus which are never purged. grrrrr....
