I'm not an expert on OBSE or scripting but, I believe that the current OBSE does have some kind of work around for detecting hits, such as "OnHit" and "OnMagicEffectHit"... although I wouldn't know how to use it... I do know that the current OBSE is complex and extremely flexible and much more functional now.
I know. It does. But I just couldn't see any other way to get the script to detect when the player was hit with a spell. Trust me: I spent many frustrating hours over it. However, I've played with it on my character for a fair amount of time and the only trouble I had was that sometimes I couldn't sustain my fights to keep the bonuses. =P
I've taken a hiatus from modding, but plan to get back into it soon. Hopefully OBSE has come out with something to help me. As for the ayleid texture: it's been a while, but I believe it did cross my mind, but I chose the jade amulet as it had a worn look to it. Now that you mention it, though, maybe the Draconian Madstone would be better...
As far REtexturing, I've only dabbled in custom textures and really have no idea how to go about them, and no one else is willing to pick up the slack. So, I'm waiting for this summer to give me a nice amount of time to learn.
Hmm, this amulet concept sounds very interesting but attaching a script to the player's CS reference sounds a little tricky. I think I'll test it anyways, I'd be glad to see someone help you out with the script.
Have you considered for example retexturing the jade amulet with some Ayleid textures to make it stand out a little more?
