I've always thought the encumbrance limits were pretty silly, and encumbrance "realism" purists sillier yet. "Carry 200 pounds? Oh no ya don't! That's for sissies! With my mod, you can carry only 10 pounds! 10, that's it! Now that's realism! I'm hard-core, baby, hard-core!"
Esgalduin discussed some of the problems with this kind of "realism" in the mod description, and here are some more: Mankind has had transportation systems since the Stone Age...because they knew perfectly well that being restricted to only what you can carry can be a problem. Is it *really* realistic for an adventurer to carry all his loot on his back? Of course not. He's going to use packhorses, or a cart, or a wagon or a boat or whatever. Or magic, in a fantasy game.
On a side note, in Skyrim I sometimes do restrict my characters to their default encumbrance limit under special circumstances: when they're poor and just starting out, were attacked and captured or left for dead, etc. This restriction lasts until they find a cart (or a boat, if on the coast.) After that, they can carry 500 to 800 pounds, the idea being that they're using the vehicle they found to get their loot back to town.
Oh, and remind me to talk about "fast-travel" some time...
Thanks for this. I've been using Oscuro's Oblivion Overhaul for a long time, which is great, but it also slows progression quite a bit. That means it takes longer to put points into Strength and I constantly need to cast Feather spells or wear a number of Feather items. This certainly helps.
You can, of course, make an enchanted item with the Feather effect. Still, my mod has two potential advantages:
- it works right from the start of the game, benefitting even a new character (who doesn't have access to the Altar of Enchanting, and couldn't afford to use it even if she did).
- an enchanted item will increase carrying capacity by a fixed amount; with my mod, capacity increases with Strength.
I just made a ring with the enchantment Feather 10000 and went around killing Imperial Legion with my trusty Midas Chest, looting their armors after kills.
Did I mention I have like 5khp/5kmp & heal 100hp a sec? Yeah, I'm cheap, I know.
But back to the weight thing... I went to a merchant after I had my fun and unloaded all the armors in my inventory and unequipped and reequipped my ring. Interestingly enough, the max weight seemed to be 6000 something. Might have something to do with the endurance thing you were talking about.
Oh and after you get the 6k something weight limit, you'll keep it as long as you don't reequip the ring, at which point it'd go to +300 your max I think? Or current, I forget.
But that's what I did, feather 10000 enchantment. Worked wonders. Don't know if your mod has it or not, but there's an idea for ya if it doesn't.

The difference is in how feather works. It doesn't add carrying capacity; it reduces encumbrance.
