I'll be blowed if I can get the offline help to work. Otherwise, thank you LHammonds. I couldn't find an old enough version anywhere else.(teach me to keep a back up of my downloads - huh? - lol)
GIMP allows you to modify textures, re-color them or completely replace them with your own 100% custom textures.
These textures are associated to models (NIFs) which can be used as replacers for what ships with the game or used to create unique (non-replacers but the same model) or 100% new models with custom textures.
Example process for changing the color of the green glass longsword to become red glass (most simple of all texture tasks):
1. Extract the meshes and textures that ship with the game using BSA Commander (this is done just once) 2. Find the correct image. In this case, it would be found in "texturesweaponsGlassClaymore.dds" 3. Open the DDS image in GIMP and immediately save it in the native format for your image editor...for GIMP, it is .xcf format. This keeps your modified image from loosing any further quality due to being converted from a lossy image format (DDS or JPG). 4. Change the color hue from green to red. 5. Save the .xcf image. 6. Save Copy As .dds image. 7. Place the new dds file in the same path so that it "replaces" the green texture in-game with your new red texture. "texturesweaponsGlassClaymore.dds" 8. Make sure you are using an Archive Invalidation technique and checkout your color change in Oblivion.
hi , can i have a detailed description of what it's used for, i know it does textures but how do you make a copy of something in oblivion and retexture the copy?
