NOT a performance boosting tool
I made and tested this mod on game version 1.65. It might work with later versions but is untested.
This mod will cause the game to render the internal graphics at a lower resolution than the UI.
Example 1: If you're running the game at 4k and you choose the 0.5x version of the mod, the game will render at 1080p with a 4k UI. Example 2: If you're running the game at 1440p and you choose the 0.75x version of the mod, the game will render at 1080p with a 1440p UI.
It will scale similarly for any resolution you choose.
IMPORTANT NOTE: While I got almost double my FPS - up from 15-20 to 30-40 - by using 0.5x at 4k, it's still a significant loss from the 60fps I get while running the game at native 1080p without the mod. If you want the best performance, play at a lower resolution and don't use this mod.
That said, if you're on a potato PC and you're looking to eke out a few more FPS at 1080p or 720p without suffering a blurry UI at lower resolutions, this mod will help you do that. That's probably the best use-case for it.
I am far from an expert at this kind of work, and used my limited knowledge to create this "proof of concept" type result. I'm uploading it in case someone finds it useful.
