Would soldiers actually salute someone who isn't military personnel? I understand if you have high rep with the NCR they'll respect you, but I always thought that a salute is an honor limited only to actual soldiers of high rank, not civilian couriers...
Depends on the rules and guidelines of the NCR Army, which we aren't privy to, but by way of comparison, the Department of Defense's advice on Customs and Courtesies states 'Civilians who are entitled (rate), by reason of their position, gun salutes, or other honors are also entitled (by custom) to the hand salute. The President, as Commander in Chief of the armed forces, is always saluted. Other civilians may be saluted by persons in uniform when appropriate, but the uniform hat or cap must not be raised as a form of salutation.' I think we can read a Courier with high NCR reputation as being entitled to honours (which they are indeed granted in the NCR ending) and so also being entitled to a salute.
Maybe instead of basing it on Reputation, base it on the status of Project Purity, maybe if the player sacrifice himself, the Brotherhood begins to salute him, otherwise they don't salute until you complete Broken Steel.
I forgot I was using a reputation mod for ttw, I'm using TTW Reputations, not sure if it could be built off of that. What Starkilla55 said about it being based off the ending of Project Purity would likely be more practical for most players.
yeah it could be built off of that (probably) or upon purity stuff but i don't have ttw to test it or check EDIDs and stuff when s6s release SWEEP i'll install TTW and see if i can do brotherhood and or enclave version
The BoS does not have a reputation system with that mod, as unless you kill them all you are friendly with them. There are a few quest variables that could affect a salute, which are:
Player is in the East Coast brotherhood faction, added after Take It Back as part of the Broken Steel DLC (player gets added to East Coast Brotherhood Faction in a conversation with Elder Lyons, supposedly as a Knight). You could have Initiates salute the player if they are: the Player and in the East Coast BoS faction (those conditions are only met once you are a "Knight").
There is a point where through dialogue you get promoted to Paladin, I think it's after Who Dares Wins. I don't know if there's a specific variable for this. You could upgrade it so Knight level NPCs salute you as well at that point.
What’s your faction rep requirement for it? shouldn’t be too low or it’ll feel unearned. maybe 5-10% chance to salute for semi-famous rep, saving the 100% chance for max rep? Could do a sliding scale if you wanted to be fancy. Point is not all grunts will know your status until you’re a faction rockstar

I had to use process of elimination to get here. There was zero hint as to what it was until I discovered it was this.
SCRIPTS: Script '', line 6: failed to evaluate expression.
