My take on headshots that is intended to strike a "balance" between the systems already in the game with the expectation that hitting someone's head will do more than hitting their arm. Introducing, Simple Headshots!

By default, you must cripple an enemy's head before you can instant kill with a headshot. The next hit AFTER crippling the opponent's head will be an instant kill. Works in VATS, JAM Bullet Time (or JBT), normal shooting, and with melee weapons!  NEW: The attack must do a minimum amount of damage to trigger the headshot, configurable via the INI.

Forcing you to cripple the head before granting an insta-kill headshot makes your gun skill and actual aiming ability much more important, as it will likely take a few hits to kill the enemy even if you score only headshots.

Normal Helmets do not block the ability to headshot.  As you are required to cripple the head first, the implication is that any headgear is considered too damaged to block the attack.  This allows the game's normal resistances and weapon damage to be applied up to a certain point, so some sponge remains. This limitation should prevent you from being able to enter a higher leveled area than you normally can when using other headshot mods, as you cannot just enter an area and one-hit everything; enemies will likely still take a few shots to put down.

NEW: Power Armor Helmets will always block a headshot. Configurable via the INI

By default, getting a Critical Hit in the head will also insta-kill the opponent regardless of their head condition (except Power Armor, if enabled).

Can also be enabled on the Player and/or your Companions for an extra challenge!

NEW: Headshot Immunity. During the install, you will be prompted to add some additional files that will add KEYWORDS to select enemies which makes them immune to Headshots.  These include various "Boss" NPCs (such as Caesar, General Oliver, Benny, etc), all Super Mutant Behemoths, various "Boss" Creatures (Mother Deathclaws, Ghost of She, Mirelurk King/Queen, etc), various "Boss" Robots (mostly from OWB, but also Liberty Prime), and finally one for ALL Super Mutants (NV and DC variants, and Nightkin).  I have included things from both New Vegas and TTW, let me know about any more (preferably by their EditorID)!

NEW: Headshot Damage Scaling. This is disabled by default (set to 1.0), and is intended for users that may not be using a mod such as New Blood which changes the headshot damage received.  This is a multiplier! Any value set other than 1.0 or 0.0 will make ALL enemies and creatures take more (or less) headshot damage.  The player is NOT included by this scaling.
 
Compatibility
  • Scripted solution, so should be compatible with everything, including TTW!
  • Obviously redundant when using with other headshot mods
  • Recommended to use with something like New Blood
  • HIGHLY recommended to enable "bLocalizedDTDR" in JIP LN NVSE Plugin

bPlayerHeadshots- Default: 0
  • Whether the player can be killed by a headshot
  • Is impacted by the other configuration options below

bCompanionHeadshots- Default: 0
  • Whether your companions can be headshot
  • Is impacted by the other configuration options

bCrippledHeadshots- Default: 1
  • The head must be crippled before instant kill headshots
  • Set to 0 will disable scripted headshots
  • Set to -1 will cause ALL headshots to kill (very OP)

bCriticalHeadshots- Default: 1
  • Critical Hits to the head always kill
  • Hint: Set "bCrippledHeadshots" to "0" and set this to "1" to only have critical hits instakill!

bPANoHeadshots- Default: 1
  • Power Armor Helmets always prevent Headshots
  • Hint: Set "bCrippledHeadshots" to "0" and set this to "1" to only have critical hits instakill!

iHeadshotExplode- Default: 5
  • Percent chance for headshots to explode the head. 
  • Acceptable values are 0 - 100
  • Note: Headshots always explode when attacker has the Bloody Mess perk

fMinHeadDamage- Default: 7.5
  • Minimum Amount of Head Damage before script occurs
  • Set to 0 to have any weapon trigger script

fHeadDamageMult- Default: 1.0
  • Multiplies ALL Head damage done by this amount. Excludes the Player
  • Included incase you want to increase or decrease headshot damage
  • Not recommended to adjust when using something like New Blood
