Greetings, fellow wasteland wanderers!

I'm excited to unveil the latest, greatest and most polished installment in the New Vegas Tactical Urbanism series:
"NVTU - Gibson Scrapyard Overhaul".

This mod has been designed to transform Gibson's Scrapyard from an uninspiring pile of debris into an engaging, lore-rich environment that promises a new depth of exploration.

If you've ever found yourself wandering around Gibson's Scrapyard thinking, "This place could use some more character," then this mod is for you. As an avid "damn I'm really stoned and wanna watch TV" viewer of the show "American Pickers" and having encountered numerous scrapyards in real life, I've aimed to breathe a layer of gritty, realistic ambiance into Gibson's Scrapyard.

So, What's New?

Well, Gibson's Scrapyard has now been touched by time. It's not just a scrapyard—it's a fortified home, showing off years of survival, adaptation, and repair in the harsh wasteland environment. It's a scrapyard lived in for decades by Old Lady Gibson and her now-deceased husband, infused with a history you can almost feel.

Let's Dive Into the Details:

  • An expanded variety of scrap. The monotonous car stack and tire pile models have been replaced with a diverse set of new scrap models: different types of cars, trucks, boats, appliances, robot hulls, and more. Explore to your heart's content!

  • Personal memorabilia, like a makeshift memorial area with urns—each a tribute to the many dogs the Gibsons must have loved and lost over their long years in the wasteland.

  • Detailed enhancements to the dog's living quarters for a cozier, more personal touch.

  • Expanded storage area and an added camper for yard hands and helpers, drawing parallels with real-life Workaway or WWOOF experiences.

  • A well-decorated building boasting a collection of signs and banners—much like what you'd see on an episode of "American Pickers".

  • A private outhouse/bath area, because privacy is still a thing, even in a post-apocalyptic world.

What Sets This Mod Apart?

A standout feature of this mod is the integration of the "Book Menu" mod. It adds 19 new books that delve deeper into the lore and backstory of Gibson's Scrapyard, providing an exciting teaser for my upcoming project "Works of the Wastes"—a mod aiming to infuse New Vegas with a robust narrative layer, adding dozens of lore-friendly books, written after the fall of the bombs, giving a depth similar to Morrowind or Skyrim.

Every book has been carefully placed around the scrapyard, giving you an even greater incentive to explore every nook and cranny. With this mod, there's more to do than just combat; there's a whole new world to discover!

Books include:

  • Ain't No Rocket Scientist
  • Dino-Bites Cookbook
  • Doggone Days
  • Gibson's Palm - A Memorial
  • Greenin' The Wastes
  • The Great Ghoulini Bestiary - Night Stalkers
  • Ironclad Cultists - Who are the Brotherhood?
  • Miracles - Magnets, How Do They Work?
  • Our Ruff 'n' Tumble Family
  • Scrapyard Savvy - Shiftin' Heaps and Hulks
  • Shadows of the Old World - A Lifetime of Scrap
  • Bright as Day: Make Your Own Torch from Tire Scraps!

Journals include:

  • Gibson Radio Log I-IV
  • Helper Journal I-IV
  • Hidden Journal

Don't worry—this mod doesn't modify the interior, so it won't clash with the "The Great Mojave Interior Overhaul" mod.

The scrapyard now feels more like a flea market—a hub of activity where traders and caravanners might spend hours digging through crates, sifting through piles, and examining the trinkets placed on the new shelves around the scrapyard. Hidden items and hard-to-reach places reward those who love to climb and jump around.

Additionally, there are new signposts directing to NoVac and other locations, emphasizing the idea that traders frequently stop here. While the overall layout is similar to the vanilla game, there's a heightened sense of pathways, with strategically placed shelving, spools, and crates beckoning to be explored. Craftily positioned signs and torches further guide traders through the scrapyard, lending an air of organized chaos to the environment.

This mod might be a bit resource-intensive due to its detailing, but tests on my Thinkpad T430 (an 11-year-old machine) yielded a stable 30 FPS, so most users should be able to enjoy the revamped Gibson Scrapyard without any performance issues.

Rediscover Gibson's Scrapyard and experience New Vegas like never before!
