GECK users: the scripts for this mod and the messages referenced therein were re-written with the now abandoned intent to have all messages behave as message boxes, rather than corner messages. The framework for this idea still exists. Simply tick "Message Box" in the relevant messages in GECK and the selected messages will now pop-up as a full window that you need to click "OK" to exit, rather than a corner message. The editor IDs for these can be found here:
Hey I had an idea. Would it be possible to replace the menu that pops up with a normal interaction prompt like you'd have in front of a jukebox or radio? I feel like that'd be smoother and would look great with animated player interactions
That might be possible, yeah. It would have to be something I'd look at in the future, though, I'm not currently involved with New Vegas modding. When I come back I'll keep this in mind.
Yeah those giant ai upscale packs where the closest thing I could find! No worries! Pretty much all of the animation mods for objects and furniture I've seen are like that. Oh well 😅
Hi, could you provide a version for people who use Ammacuzero's Animated Mojave, which includes Animated Vending Machines within along with many other of his animated mods?
This is just a dumb lore nitpick, but I'd personally change it from Nuka-Cola ($1) to something like "Nuka-Cola (1 stack of Pre-war Money)"
The pre-war money item is technically a stack of bills. And before the bombs fell, inflation was soaring to extreme heights so it still works out in that regard.
Will consider making an inflation patch for one of the versions of the mod. Bouncing between low stock and half stock. If the prices are going up, that definitely helps balance it out for people that actually have a use for any Nuka-Cola in their playthroughs, either through mods or whatever else. This was a good think.
I have 50$ bill retexture on pre-war money. That's what i call inflation. :D Maybe it would be better make some tokens or find coins for these old school machines.
When you make that version, please dont say in exact number what a nuka worth in those message box. Just a vague "Ah, let's take a cola." "Ah, let's take a precious pre-war Cola". This to prevent headache of when you want to change the number of bill stacks to use, or people use other nomination money retex. Because the FNV ratio is not that easy to balance
vanilla nuka cola = 20 bottle caps = 2 stack of money in barter nuka victory = 75 caps = 7.5 stack in barter
Or if you can go to extreme "Ah, let's take 200$ cola". "Ah, time for 1000$ Victory/Quantum/Quartz."
Yeah, it occurred to me when I woke up this morning that I completely misunderstood what this thread was saying. I still believe there may be value in rasing the amount of Pre-War Money needed to buy a drink, but what would that accomplish, other than making it annoying for early game players? I don't know. That version of the idea is at the back of my mind, but for now the "lore-friendly" version is basically taking the approach originally suggested, and either referring to it as "1 Stack of Pre-War Money" (not my preferred option) or re-writing the menus to read more like the Pip-Boy/barter menus read, i.e.: "Nuka Cola: Pre-War Money (1)." At this point the less complicated I make it, the better off we all are.
Zierry, thanks for bringing up the alt money textures, I completely forgot those were ever made, let alone used by people. This helps a lot.
Ah, sorry if I wasn't as clear as I should have been! Yeah I just meant that the money item itself was already a wad of cash.
Though I think your idea was good too. Bottles becoming more expensive the emptier the machine gets might also be a fun idea. Prices automatically adjusting to inflate the value of a soda in a vending machine determined by it's own local scarcity sounds very Fallout. But either way, thanks for implementing the change!
I *may* have accidentally made some TTW stuff a master when editing this in GECK as that's what I'm working on on the side. The mod should work without any of that present, but I'll try and fix that. Thanks for letting me know.
Most of the details can be found in the description page for this mod. I recommend looking at the videos included to see demonstrations of both the mod you're referring to (labeled as "ORIGINAL") and my version of it (labeled as "REVISED").
Just a suggestion, instead of a message box that says that vending machine is out of stock, it would be neat to have a corner message that says about it.
Ironically, that's how that message originally worked, which was the result of an oversight on my part. I'll take it into consideration, thanks for the feedback.
Working on a reduced stock version right now. The original script has Nuka machines capping out their distributions around 12(?) bottles, and SS machines around 10 bottles. Should have a rebalanced version up within the hour. Expect about the figures you quoted.

Yeah, skyhigh price.
