Unfortunately this mod doesn't seem to work anymore. ): Smoking spawns a huge error(?) on the player. The pipboy icon also shows an error. Disappointing because it sounded perfect.
i don't like it whenever I'm smoking while travelling, there'll be a bunch of enemies lying about forcing me to wait my character to finish smoking before sneaking since the debuff is quite significant.
It's all hardcoded in the mod, there's no INI file where you could fine-tune the effects. That said, I installed GECK to solve my problem with the character disappearing and got along quite well. The mod isn't complex. If you're brave, you should be able to change it to yourself.
However, I think the penalty makes absolutely sense. You smell, you puff and the cigarette glows. Mirroring this in the sneak skill seems quite appropriate. It's why I like this version of the mod: My character is a smoker and that's sometimes an issue I have to deal with, beyond making sure that I have enough cigarettes. I'd even consider adding more penalties, e.g. reduce AP (combined with JAM, this would also result in shorter sprint and hold breath time), maybe balance this with a bonus on crit and/or accuracy/spread (good for snipers: sit down, light a cigarette and calmly snipe things).
It would definitely be nice to add a way to put the cigarette out, so you don't have to wait.
Research has shown that nicotine can speed up reaction time, improve working memory, and enhance focus and attention. Small bonus to science would be nice.
Science +1? I can live with that. But would it make your Energy Weapons more powerful too? I would rather just smoke while crafting ammo and doing repairs.
Made a quick fix of your mod. Just two little things I noticed when using it: 1) you write "sleep" instead of "SLP" 2) I think lucky cigarettes should have the sneak - 10 effect as well https://www.mediafire.com/file/0izv22axpzj8ea7/LightUpAndSmokeThoseCigarettes_edisleado_v1.1.esp/file
I've got one problem, though: when smoking in interiors, the character sometimes becomes invisible for a short time in 3rd person mode. I checked the comments for the original mod, it's been reported several times there, too, but no responses. This only happens while smoking. Otherwise, the character does not become invisible. This only happens while smoking.

It's reproducible where it happens, e.g. enter Gomorrah, go through the Casino, back left passage to Brimstone Lounge / Courtyard, in the passage from the Casino to the Lounge, it may take 3–4 tries. When I stand still for a few seconds while invisible, the character becomes visible again. I've never seen this happen outside. There are many examples of this in Sunset Sarsaparilla headquarters as well (e.g. enter and go through the right door). Sneaking and/or being crippled doesn't change anything, the character still disappears.
Installed mods: followed the instructions for Viva New Vegas (https://vivanewvegas.github.io/) but skipped a few, plus: 360/diagonal movement, simple 3rd person camera improvements, oHUD, The HUD Editor, shorter chem wear-off effects, aim view switcher (installed but inactive via MCM), Playstation 4 button icons, climate control, complete respec (used only once early in the game)).
Any ideas what could cause this and how to fix it?
On a side note, I'd make the time until withdrawal a bit longer. Maybe I'll try installing G.E.C.K. to edit the values myself.
I had a hunch that the smoke of the cigarette might cause this and I seem to have confirmed it. My idea was that maybe, the smoke is considered part of the player model and in tight spaces, near distance clipping kicks in and makes my character invisible, or something similar. So, I replaced this mod with Animated Cigarettes - Smoke me I'm famous, just to see what happens. That one has an option to turn the smoke off. Sure enough, with smoke turned off, I can't reproduce the problem. As soon as I turn the smoke on, it behaves exactly the same: running & smoking in tight spaces tends to make my character invisible at times, standing still for a moment (the smoke goes straight up, not behind the character) makes her visible again.
It's possible that the smoke colliding with the camera causes this, though I'm not sure why it never happens outside. At any rate, it seems to be the smoke.
That other mod has its own share of problems. It seems quite bloated, a lot of potential to break things. Actually, I encountered a first bug while experimenting, though it might have been caused by the mod switch (withdrawal immediately after putting out a cigarette). I'll stick with this mod, it's small, to the point and the effects make absolutely sense.
An option to completely disable the smoke would probably be the easiest fix. Another idea: only show smoke when standing, not while moving. Ideally, fix the actual problem, if that's possible at all.
OK, I installed GECK and investigated. I can confirm that the smoke is the problem. I edited the Cigarettesmoke armor and removed the male biped model (smoking_edisleado\smallsmoke.nif). Now the character doesn't disappear anymore, but there's also no smoke. Well, playability over eye candy.
Thanks for this! Like you said, cigs are a bit broken with the other mod, so it's nice to have the option when I'm trying to roleplay a tougher environment. I appreciate you adding the Lucky cig back as an optional file too!

Totally agree.
Animation conflict or problem, I suppose.
