For what it's worth, here's my janky workaround for the terminal readability issue: changing the fRenderedTerminalScanlineScale ini setting. I have no idea what the math would be to get a perfect match, but after some trial and error I found that a value of 1.333 looks pretty good. Just add this to your FalloutCustom.ini:
For me at least this made things clearer but not by much. I am using this with the classic terminal replacer and the hacking screen is still messed up, just not as bad as it was.
Great proof of concept. For me, however, the readability was a bit too low, so I just scaled down the scanlines to 512. Now it's more noticeable than vanilla, but much more readable.
Also, as a random sidenote: Doesn't seem like the texture is compressed.
Any chance you could send me the edited textures you used here, or tell me how you go about editing the texture? I love the effect but like you think its too over the top.
Just open the file in an image editor like Photoshop, Paint.net or GIMP and downscale the entire image to 512x512 (or any size of your choosing, the smaller, the less obscuring). Export it as a .dds and set the compression to DXT3 (since it's a transparent texture). All three have .dds support and should export it no problem. (Make sure to generate mipmaps as well, otherwise the texture could look weird at certain distances).
Anyone put off this mod by the comments about the terminals being unreadable, I'd recommend trying it out for yourself first. I was also hesitant but I tried out the mod and it's really not as bad as people are making out - I guess it's down to personal preference! I am also using the Fallout Classic Fonts mod so perhaps that has an impact.
Quick question, it might be dumb but the effects in the screenshots with the pipboy 2000 MKIV aren't happening for me. I dont have that pipboy mod installed so would I need that mod for those effects or something? I feel like im missing something
This mod works with the vanilla pip-boy and any pip-boy mods I believe. Take that with a grain of salt, I've only ever tried it with PipBoy 3000 and PipBoy MKIV
Tried making them smaller, but it looks bad on the pipboy. The thing is the UV Mapping on the terminal is stretched more than the pipboy so it makes it look like vomit.
While I agree that the terminals are kinda jank, the only reason they should be considered unreadable is if you're skipping your optometrist appointments.
I've loved using this, but through a lot of trial and error, learned that this was somehow causing the esoteric issue of Pip-Boy screens not showing *anything* when using something like DXVK. I do not know why though.
For some reason the lines are way to big on the pip boy and terminals. I'm on a 21:9 (ultrawide) aspect ratio so idk if thats why its doing this or if theres even any way to fix this. https://imgur.com/a/0wOfjlC

And don't forget to remove that line if you ever uninstall the mod.
