Just compared this to the files I had in my install folder, and these were 128kbps while the ones I already had were 192kbps. Gave them both a quick listen and they sounded about the same... Are these really better?
Yes, the modded audio is better. The ones used in game are just audio ripped from the Vault Archives sampled in 192kbps 48000hz, while mine are in 128kbps 44100hz from the soundtrack CDs and sound more clearer and less fuzzy. The Vault Archives audio is in lower-quality than the soundtrack CDs.
Feel like this guy's mistaking low bitrate (the low quality that this mod fixes) for a bad sound effect (which would require new foley work and mixing - not the goal here)
It's not bitrate, it's mastering, mixing and compression method (to my ear it's mostly the compression method/codex that is different). The bitrates are the same.
I agree, it can be noticed easily on the track ''Desert Wind'', in Vault Archives the masterization is extremely poor, however ive never found the original in lossless audio quality, best I found is 192 kb, could you hook me up or tell me where to buy it? Thanks in advance.
To start off, I used the audio files from the "Fallout1and2" folder. These audio files are considerably higher quality than the ones heard in-game and the Vault Archives. I thought they were from the Archives at first.
Now that you mentioned it, I noticed the classic music in New Vegas might be taken from Vault Archives and not ripped from Fallout 1 and 2's game files. The Fallout 1 tracks are in low quality, while suprisingly music from Fallout 2 such as Gold Slouch when you're near the wrecked highwayman is in high quality.
