DESCRIPTION
I adore cats, and it's an ongoing source of heartbreak for me that there aren't any to be found in New Vegas. I refuse to believe the "word of god" explanation that they're all extinct, because I don't want to spend time in any world that doesn't have cats in it. Frustratingly, there aren't many mods out there that add cats either, so I had to make this for myself.

What I came up with is an extremely basic follower. If you have any meat in your inventory (i.e. any item contained in the form list MeatFood), you can feed the cat and it will start to follow you. This way, you can lead it back to your player home and then dismiss it, whereby it will sandbox there indefinitely until you ask it to follow you again. You can also pet the cat at any time and give it a name. The name can be changed by editing the aaaMESGCatName message record using FNVEdit or the GECK.

I also added a rudimentary needs system with three needs - Hunger, Hygiene and Comfort - that slowly degrade over time. The cat won't die if its needs drop to zero, but as soon as you return home, it will demand your attention until it's either fed, pet, or both.

To make feeding less of a chore, I've added a craftable Cat Dish (crafted at any workbench using a Dog Bowl with a Repair skill of 15 or higher) that can be placed anywhere and filled with any kind of meat. The filled dish is good for three feedings before it runs out and must be refilled. To place the dish, you just have to drop the Misc item from your inventory and it will turn into an activator with the prompt, "Fill Cat Dish". If it doesn't work right away, pick it up and drop it again. The detection is a little janky.

You can also craft a Litter Box (using two Scrap Metal with a Repair skill of 15 or higher) that can be placed anywhere. Like the Cat Dish, the Litter Box has a limited number of uses before it becomes too dirty and must be cleaned, in this case five times. Placement is the same as with the Cat Dish, where it should turn into an activator with the prompt, "Fill Litter Box". The Litter Box must be filled before it can be used. If you choose not to have a litter box, the cat will leave piles of mess around whenever its Hygiene drops too low.

REQUIREMENTS
This mod uses the house cat mesh from Beyond Boulder Dome. As I haven't been able to get in contact with rjhelms84 to secure permission to package the meshes and textures with this mod, you'll have to download them separately.

Alternatively, if you don't want to download such a huge file, you can simply download rainman2010's mod Rex the Cat instead, which uses the same meshes. You only need to extract Data/meshes/BoulderDome/Cat and Data/textures/BoulderDome/Cat to your New Vegas Data folder.

LOCATION
By default, the cat is sandboxing around the truck outside Doc Mitchell's house, but if you're a modder, you can use Ctrl+C/Ctrl+M in the GECK to move it to wherever you want. The TTW plugin places the cat in Springvale by default. Again, you can move it wherever you'd like using the GECK.

INSTALLATION

Download this mod and the meshes from the link above. Extract all the files in the archives to your New Vegas data folder (which is the same folder where FalloutNV.esm is located) and then enable the ESP either in your mod manager of choice, or under "Data Files" in the launcher that runs when you start up New Vegas.
