DESCRIPTION
The Cold War theme is part and parcel of the Fallout experience, from the culture and attitudes, all the way down to the weapons. And after an evening of dedicated tinkering, I think I've managed to come up with a reasonable approximation of the venerable FN FAL. Known also as "The Right Arm of the Free World," the FAL was the standard fighting rifle of most NATO countries from the 1950s up until maybe the 1980s, and still sees limited service to this day. I based this gun on the semi-auto only variants used by most Commonwealth countries - everyone else, except the U.S., being smart enough to realize that .308 in full-auto is nigh uncontrollable to the point of being useless.

I started with the base game Anti-Materiel Rifle mesh and removed everything but the stock, mirroring it to get rid of the slot for the bolt. I then took the handguard from the legacy-content G3 Assault Rifle mesh and attached it to the receiver from the Light Machine Gun. I added the barrel and magazine from the Service Rifle, the magazine well and charging handle from the legacy-content Chinese Assault Rifle, and the hammer from the 9mm Pistol, repurposed as the magazine release.

Gameplay-wise, this weapon is a reasonably-accurate semi-automatic-only rifle chambered in .308. It can be modded with the 10mm Pistol Silencer and the 9mm Pistol Scope. I've also added the weapon to all the appropriate form lists, so that all perks and challenges that affect semi-auto rifles will work as expected.

LOCATION
The weapon can be purchased from the Gun Runners and other vendors across the Wasteland, or found in random loot drops. Of course, if you're feeling lazy, you can always use the following console command (Substitute ## with the Mod Index of the plugin in your load order):

player.AddItem ##000ADE 1;Gives 1 Self-Loading Rifle

Show
The Mod Index is a two-character hexadecimal code, with a value between 00 and FF, that can be found using a mod manager. It should be listed somewhere beside the name of the plugin. After finding the Mod Index, open the console in game using the tilde (~) key, and type Player.AddItem <FormID> 1

INSTALLATION
Extract all the files in the archive to your New Vegas data folder (which is the same folder where FalloutNV.esm is located) and then enable the ESP either in your mod manager of choice, or under "Data Files" in the launcher that runs when you start up New Vegas.
