The VSS Vintorez (the real world gun this is based on), while looking a lot like an AK, is not actually a Kalashnikov action and does not use the AK's 7.62x39mm or 5.45x39mm cartridge. Likewise, this weapon may look like a Chinese Assault Rifle, but uses a different internal action and is also chambered for a different cartridge.
I know the VSS uses 9x39mm, is striker-fired, different mechanism and that. But the mag model is a smaller version of the the chinese assault rifle mag which uses 5.56
Also with the .357 being a pistol cartridge that's has a flatter/"softer" bullet, I don't feel like it would achieve the armor penetration you see with 9x39, so 5.56 with it's sharper bullet would be a more realistic-ish alternative
More soviet weapons are always welcome. Though, isn't the 9mm a much more closer cartridge to the 9x39mm ammo? Anyways, Can't wait to pick one of these once I reached vegas.
.357 Magnum in metric is 9x33mm Rimmed, as opposed to 9x19mm Parabellum. Also, the SVD fires a rimmed cartridge (7.62×54mmR), so I figured that using .357 Magnum would reinforce the amalgam idea.
I have a interesting idea for you, how about combining 9mm Submachine Gun (M3 Grease Gun) and .45 Auto Submachine Gun (M1A1 Thompson) to create a Spitfire Carbine?
Very nice feel, gives that S.T.A.L.K.E.R. vibe that I like. Along with Spice of Life, this game can really turn into a varied post-apoc experience. I also use your armor mod, just for some extra flavor.
