EDIT: I've been informed that while this is an issue for Fallout 3, it may not be a problem for Fallout New Vegas. For now I'll leave this up but if it turns out to be not needed I'll remove it in a couple weeks and thank you everyone for the info and feedback!

I had my hopes up when I say this, unfortunately it didn't seem to solve it for me. I have no issue running the game with ENB but when I run it through MO2 it just crashes. All solutions I found were along the lines of putting the d3d9.dll file in the "exes" directory created by 4gb, but the 4gb is incompatible with GOG as you say so I've given up and using reShade only.

This fix has nothing to do with MO2 crashes and it doesn't claim to. The purpose of this fix is only for people that got crash to desktops when using an ENB. If you have no issue running the game with an ENB then there's no reason to even use these steps. Just a heads up though, the 4GB is compatible with the GOG version and is still recommended to be used because it helps with other issues so that may be the problem right there. As for putting the d3d9.dll file in the 4GB directory, that wouldn't do a single thing. It runs from the games main folder and that's the one that needs to be overwritten. My advice would be to switch to Vortex. Gopher has a series of tutorials on youtube that will help greatly. They revolve around Fallout New Vegas, but as he stated, many still apply to F3. If MO2 is causing crashes you'd have to go there for tech support.

Sorry, maybe I explained myself incorrectly but I have no issues running the game but it crashes when I try to use ENB, that's why I'm playing with just Reshade and SweetFX instead. Just in case, I didn't try to imply that you were not true to your word with the title, just that I had given up in ENB and this lit my hopes again, nothing more.

As for the 4GB patch, I tried installing it but it doesn't recognize the file (just tried again once more just to be certain, the instructions says to make sure to have steam running too), how did you manage to make it run? I'm referring to the 4GB patcher that creates an exes folder by the way (https://www.nexusmods.com/newvegas/mods/5506), the more recent one (https://www.nexusmods.com/newvegas/mods/62552) works fine, thou GOG version is supposed to already be 4GB enabled (or so I read), I patched it just in case and tried with patched and not patched exe files just in case.

As for switching, I've been considering on switching to FOMM once I define my definite installation order (was using FOMM at the start but MO is convenient since you can just I can just drag folders and changes the overwriting files. I'm not convinced if I should do it thou, will probably at least try to see if the ENB problem is because of MO2 or not. For the time being, unmodded the game launches with ENB if launching outside of MO2.

Last, thank you for taking the time to reply, much appreciated.

Just to clarify, are you using the Steam version, or the GOG version? I can't help with the Steam version because I believe it still has the Games For Windows Live enabled. Also, if you don't mind, could you give me your load order or a list of the mods you're using? That might help me find something that may be causing an error. It can be as simple as a mod that isn't packed or pathed correctly. One last thing, which ENB are you trying to use, I can see if that has it's own issues as well. And no worries about the misunderstanding I just wanted to make sure you weren't wasting your time with my fix if it was another issue. I'll be happy to help you with this! I usually check in here every day or two so I'll try to help as quickly as possible. If you aren't in the middle of a game now though, I might want to get you to do a clean install and go through together to get it working.

I'm using GOG version. This is the load order and the order in MO2, just in case. The merged patches are all working fine, the only mod that has some issues is niner but works fine for the most part

      Load order: https://pastebin.com/embed_iframe/aaSHZJDZ
      Mod list: https://pastebin.com/embed_js/6VP9tS7p

      Total activated plugins are 107.
Oh, using NVTF, NVSE, JIP NVSE, Johnnyguitar NVSE and "mod limit fix" plugins.

Thanks again for taking your time with helping out.

No problem, I just hope I can help. Which ENB were you trying to use again. I did a fresh install of Fallout NV and I'm going to see if I can recreate the problem. So far your mod list looks fine, I don't see any known offenders there. If you could give me the link to the ENB I'll give it a shot.

The GOG version has been fixed, but it wasn't at the time I posted this. I'm not certain about the Steam version. I don't use ENB Booster, but I do use an ENB and haven't encountered those issues. I'd maybe look into any potential mods that might conflict. Apologies, I wish I could help, but I'm just not familiar with ENB booster, but I'm using an ancient Fallout 4 ENB - Midhrastic ENB so it's fairly lightweight compared to many modern ENB's.

I tried to use minimal ENB (https://www.nexusmods.com/newvegas/mods/68768) since it's the simplest but with no presets or with Ruby or Enhanced shaders, it crashes with all of them.  ENB version is 0.405, tried the ENB boost 0.203 too, just in case.
The crash is before getting to the start menu, not when loading/starting a saved game.

Edit: Ok, did some testing, Unoficial Patch Plus makes it crash, I remade the bashed and merged patches without UPP but it crashes. Also with NVR3+Qwinn. And maybe more. Problem is UPP and NVR3 are already very important if I need to disable many other mods to make it run with ENB I prefer to just play with Reshade instead of loosing content.

Edit 2: Got around to trying without MO, same thing. Either there is a problem with the mods or I've set something wrong, I think I followed the instructions to the letter thou. I give up, looks good enough with Reshade and SweetFX anyways.

Strangely I was never able to make Enboost work with Fallout NV in Windows 10. I have read this fix and others (re-installing DX-9 and vredist) a while ago and I tried everything, but nothing works.

Where it gets really weird is that on the exact same system I have Fallout 3 (not TTW) installed with Enboost working like a charm. Go figure.....

I'm not too familiar with ENB Boost so I'm not sure if my solution works. As you can see below this was originally for Fallout 3 and I assumed it might also be a problem for Fallout NV, but if not, I'll bring it down. You're experience is strange, I have to overwrite the DXGI.DLL for Fallout 3 occasionally to get it working again. Sorry I couldn't help, I'll look into ENB boost and see if I can figure something out right after the holidays. I'll post here if I find a workaround.

Thanks for posting this. I am using the GOG version and ENB (Fallout NV Beautification Project ENB) with no issues. It might helpful to post your specs and what ENB is actually problematic.

It's not a problem for me. I posted this solution on another mods page, but it's getting buried and people keep asking about the problem so I decided just to put this information there. The thing is that most of the problems are for Fallout 3. I posted this assuming that it might be a problem for New Vegas as well, but if that's not the case, I'll probably just remove this. It sounds like it's just a problem with Fallout 3. I appreciate the feedback. I'll leave this up for a few days, but if it seems unnecessary I'll bring it down, cheers!

Personally, I've never had problems with any of the GOG Fallout games on Windows 10. Endorsed nevertheless for the effort.

Well I posted this somewhere else and every few days or weeks I see someone pop up needing some help so I just thought I would post this here. I actually checked yesterday and it wouldn't launch until I overwrote that file so it may just be for ENB users. Thanks for the endorsement. Even if it just helps one person it'll be worth it. These are still great games and people should be able to enjoy them on modern machines. Cheers!
