Emily Ortal Companion mod FAQ/ReadMe
How to get Emily as a companion:
When you complete the vanilla quest The Moon Comes Over The Tower, the "real" Emily Ortal will approach you as you leave the Lucky 38. This dialogue is still vanilla*. When you exit dialogue with vanilla Emily, she will disappear and companion Emily will be enabled inside the Old Mormon Fort. Vanilla Emily will no longer be accessible without console.** Keep in mind, she would refuse to talk to you at this point in the vanilla game anyway.
In the Old Mormon Fort, Emily will talk to you and provide you doctors services. In order to get her to follow you, however, you must satisfy BOTH of the following two additional conditions:
1. Your Followers of The Apocalypse REPUTATION (idolized, liked, etc...) must be AT LEAST 75% of the maximum.
2. Your Your Followers of The Apocalypse INFAMY (villified, shunned, etc...) must be BELOW 25% of the maximum.
She should refuse to come with you again if you have failed this since firing her, but it is possible she will rejoin you anyway (will fix if I add her to the vanilla companion scripts).
Doctor Services:
She will provide you doctors services "at cost" (20 caps for any service). She will do this even if dismissed or "not hireable."
Perks and Rewards:
Field Work - While in your party, Emily will provide you +10 Science, Repair, and Medicine at a cost of -1 Luck.
"Benefits" - Successful completion of the last (VERY DIFFICULT MULTI CONDITIONAL***) speech challenge will reward you +5 Medicine and +1 Luck. This Perk Remains active even when Emily is not in your party.
ROM Overclocking - Successful completion of a specific, non repeatable (I hope :) ) "Research Notes" topic. Rewards you +10 AP ONLY IF YOUR AP IS BELOW 100!
Emily's Training - Successful completion of EITHER a 75 Energy Weapons OR a 6 Intelligence check in one of the "Can I ask you something" topics will get you a +5 Science and +5 Energy Weapons perk. Completion of this challenge will also award you a playable version of Emily's custom recharger. It is less powerful than hers (18/22 instead of 20/30) but recharges much faster (.5 instead of .8). Unlike the vanilla recharger, both versios DO NOT bypass energy weapons resistance. They both charge fast and have significantly larger clips however, so they will do more DPS.
Romance "miniquest":
Emily has a dialogue tree with multiple challenges. It is entirely dialogue (no actual quest for now) and is available to both male and female PCs****. It IS TIED IN TO THE VANILLA DIALOGUE. When I fixed the Benny dialogue, I added result scripts to tell custom Emily how you reacted to her. There are two top level branches to this dialogue and multiple possible outcomes. More info in the Cheats section.
Most of the speech challenges in this plot line are set so that you only get one shot. Some are set so that you won't entirely see them coming. The dialogue is intended to (hopefully) feel like a genuine reaction to your responses based on vanilla Emily's overall character... so just see what happens. Or see the Cheats section at the end :)
Research Notes/Insights:
I didn't want to add a bunch of chatter dialogue but I wanted to give the player a chance to actually talk to Emily if they wanted to. This topic will be made available once per day and has over 25 possible random responses. Many of these will "unlock" based on your in game actions. So you never know for sure what she will say when you choose this topic. One of the responses (the only "say once" one) grants you the "ROM Upgrade" perk.
Combat Skills:
She is currently a bit OP with maxed out Energy, Guns, and Melee. This is mostly a quirk of the GECK. She is capped at level 20 and does not level with the player. She has a custom Lab coat with higher DT but still low enough that you will want to give her armor. She IS MARKED ESSENTIAL.
Dismiss Options:
Normal Dismiss: She returns to Old Mormon Fort
Lucky 38 Dismiss: She will go to the FOA safehouse*****.
The Sink Dismiss: She will go to the organ tank/lab area in The SInk******
Sink Version:
The Sink version replaces the option to send her to the FOA Safehouse with the option to send her to The Sink lab area. She will teleport there and sandbox when dismissed. However, there is a twist: when you re hire her in Big MT. You will have the standard "Care to join me" line AND a new "Head back to Mojave" option.
Choosing the standard option will allow her to accompany you into BIG MT. She should transport back with you using the Transportalponder for now as she is not yet a "vanilla" companon.
Choosing the new "Mojave" option will send her to the Drive In where she will go into "wait here" mode until you use the Transportalponder to join her. This is a "safe" option for now if you have some unforseen conflict but will become necessary if/when Emily is evetually added to the vanilla companion scripts.
The Sink version also adds a new say once dialogue tree with a three option, perk rewarding challenge. Meaning there are two "success" conditions and one "fail" condition and each rewards a different perk. You only get one shot at this but the "fail" perk is not actually worse than the "success" perks. You'll see. Or you'll read the cheats. This also unlocks Emily's Big Mountain Scientist Uniform and LAER.
Emily also has her own Transportalponder which... does nothing whatsoever. It is currently set to non playable as I haven't gotten the textures working to use it as decoration. This will likely be added in a future release.
Conflict Free Version:
The conflict free version uses only cruelty free fair trade labor. It also should not conflict with Open Freeside or Factions Reloaded: FOA. Emily is moved to the FOA safe house which is now her default dismiss option. Her second dismiss option is a "dismiss here" option. It is STRONGLY RECCOMENDED you leave her in an interior, but not technically required. This version also removes any dependency on MCOTT and makes Emily hireable and enabled by default.
Cheats:
Companion Emily's console useable (in game) Ref Id is: XX00109c where XX is your load order. This should be the same for both The Sink and vanilla versions.
The requirements for the romance challenges are: 45, 70, 70, 80, (90 speech AND Lady Killer/Cherchez la Femme).
The "That's what you get for being so naieve" line in "real" Emily's dialogue that gets you negative karma and FOA rep will kill the romance dialogue and MIGHT also make Emily unhireable. To re enable it try typing "set BennyShitTalk to 0" .
The negative option in companion Emily's "Benny, Seriously" dialogue will also kill the romance option. If you have not done ANY of those speech challenges do the exact same thing as above. If you have done any of them you will also need to type "set FlirtSuccess to X" where X is the number you have done already.
The supportive (Cherchez la Femme/Black Widow) options in "real" Emily's dialogue should make it impossible to loose the romance option due to giving her grief about Benny later on.
The three "easter egg" OWB perks (Sink Version Only) are:
Altruism (requires 10 or more Perception): +10 Medicine, +10 Survival, -3 Big Guns, -3 Explosives, -3 Guns.
Gravitas (requires less than 8 Intelligence): +1 Intelligence
Probity (requires at least 8 Intelligence AND less than 10 Perception): +1 Perception.
*The dialogue challenge about Benny and Emily is in the vanilla game but is bugged. I fixed it and added a script trigger on the Benny dialogue and the Goodbye dialogue that swaps the "real" Emily for the companion Emily.
**She will not speak to you due to vanilla scripts but is moved to an inaccessible cell rather than being disabled. If you want to see for yourself, "coc 000GRealEmilyHideout" and have a look.
*** Requires at least 90 speech AND Lady Killer (if PC male) or Cherchez la Femme (if PC female)
**** I wanted to respect vanilla Emily's sexuality. The only clues to this, however, are in the "broken" lines about Benny. While she is embarassed about having drunk sex with him, she strongly implies that the regret is Benny specifically rather than dudes in general. However, the perk based speech challenges are only available to female PCs as they require either Cherchez la Femme or Black Widow. That, along with the actual dialogue, implies she is responsive to female PC romantic inquiry but also that she's simply glad to have a woman to talk to about Benny. So I made her bi with a very slightly more personal end line for female PCs and a very slightly more dismissive end line for male PCs but essentially made sure either gender PC could get the exact same experience.
*****She SHOULD unlock the FOA safehouse while she is dismissed there, allowing the player to enter without the key WHILE SHE IS SET AS DISMISSED TO THAT LOCATION. If you fire her to OMF, you'll need your own damn key. :)
******There are a few idles added in this room and she is set to stay in that area just in case The Sink's optimization (it is perhaps the most tightly optimized interior in the entire game) decides to make her disappear. I've played with mod added and vanilla companions there many times before though, so it's not likely... but that's why she stays in that room... for now.
