the original Mare’s Leg was made by cutting down a .44-40 caliber Winchester Model 1892 rifle to a size that could be worn in a large leg holster and used with one hand. The barrel was cut down to a length of twelve (or possibly nine) inches, and much of the butt-stock was removed. It is a nasty weapon. But not a shotgun. The original Mare's Leg was the weapon of choice for Chuck Conner's in "The Rifleman" Chambered for the .44-40. it was a nifty little sawed-off lever-action rifle. There is a company making legal reproductions of such rifle.
More useless gun trivia: 3 Mare's Laigs were built for W:DoA, 2 were stunt guns for firing blanks, but Mr. McQueen insisted on one real example. Legend says he kept it.
Currently Uberti builds this weapon in a number of calibers, including the original .44-40.
am i crazy this guns accuracy is shit. i cant hit dick. its a rifle no??? this gun has broken me. i aim dead center and the bullet goes left. i shoot 5 times and hit nothing. its vat stats are terrible for a rifle. is there something im missing.
Lever-actions can actually be fired very, very rapidly -- in the hands of an experienced lever shootist who's shooting for accuracy, they're about on par with magazine-fed semiautomatic rifles -- but, um... not if you flip 'em. Yes, that's a very "cinematic" move, but real shootists don't do that unless they absolutely have to.
Any chance of adding a long barrel ver aslo i feel the range of the weapon is a bit short i try a longshot on a powerganger on the watch tower and out of 5 shot's only 1 hit and that with a gun skill of 100.
