Hi, GrandesMarees! The mod is necessary, but the vanguard behaves inadequately - all the time it tries to escape from the main forces, instead of fulfilling its duties - to catch up with the nearest enemy and get involved in battle.
I allocated 10-20 cavalry to the vanguard, but I could not get him to attack anyone. The squad just runs away from the big squads and ignores the small ones.
Hey, great idea for the mod. Unfortunately, the game keeps crashing whenever I try to split my party. I used different approaches with making me either a vanguard or leaving as a rearguard. I have a bunch of other mods, so it probably conflicts with one of them. Also, I tried setting at different positions in load order to no success. Better Exception Window info is inconclusive.

Hey, I've tried it with the new version of your mod, alas, to no avail. Now the game crashes as soon as I press either "Split party" button. Before it let me choose troops first and crashed when I pressed "Confirm".
Hi boplax, there was some trouble before 1.0.10, i dasen't well understand the Ai base. I think you can try now with the last versions and send mi your feedback.
The vanguard I set up suddenly became independent after they caught a group for me and went on a mad killing spree. They chased the other group again, killed it, then chased down a caravan and killed that before I could catch them. I think this may have been caused by Party AI Overhaul, gonna run without it for a while and see if it happens again.
Would it be possible to make a hotkey for the other group to come back to the main group, maybe? Or for them to stay at the current position?
XD, do you have try to use Ctrl+Click, if you use on them or you the vanguard will come back or wait for you. Else try to save and restore your party. I don't know well how the AI react. It is a bit difficult to use the party when you are not in. I have add delay between orders to work fine perhaps I can set the delay in parameters in Json file.
Yeah, I've been trying it a bit today and it hasn't happened since I stopped loading Party AI overhaul. After killing the first group, if you didn't give instructions they would go their own way after a few seconds and stop taking commands. I was Ctrl+clicking like crazy shouting: "Stop, stop, stop!" Hilarious but now at least they listen when I give a command when they run off again. ;)
