Dead Mod Pack has a lite version, with only the face randomization and stat+skill fixes. It's updated for 1.7.1 as of typing.

Now that Dead Mod Pack is itself dead we're gonna need an update to this essential mod.

I have an archived download link for the 1.0.1 version. Works on 1.0.2, but hadn't tested on the latest 1.0.3 yet.

There was a problem with latest versions of the original Heritage mod where the face randomization wouldn't work due to the fact that children being copies of the parents was an outdated thing. Instead of that children became identical copies of their siblings - a half-assed vanilla algorithm chose something in between their parents and applied the exact same result to all of those parents' offspring, only changing the hairstyle. The randomization algorithm of Heritage was way better than that but since it had a condition for the child's face to be a copy of their parent it actually never happened. I think that was actually the best part of this mod that never got fixed.
I take it, you didn't change the conditions for face randomization then?

I noticed that issue but haven't looked deeply enough into the code to figure out a way to detect this now

The hooks that were being used are really hacky so it might be something where I have to rewrite quite a bunch of stuff to get it to trigger more correctly, and getting the base functionality working was the biggest priority :)

I'm planning on looking at this again soon so will try to find a way to trigger it again. But if you have conceptually ideas for how to detect this, let me know

Due to the fact that vanilla children face generation algorhythm does give the children random hairstyles, I reckon their facecode wouldn't be exactly the same. So a direct comparison of them probably wouldn't work.
I think a better option would be to just apply the randomization algorhythm to every child born. Making it only check if the randomiztion happened before. So the algorhythm should pick its targets based on following conditions:
      1) A character must have not existed at the start of the campaign - so the grown-up lords and ladies wouldn't get face-randomized
      2) A character must have recorded parents - so it would only target characters that were 'born' rather than spawned with already random feautures
      3) Some kind of flag must be added to those children who had undergone the randomization procedure - so the algorhythm would not reroll already randomized children over and over again. Don't really know where or how this flag could be added though.
That's how I see it in general. I might be missing something though, and maybe letting the mod engine screw around character entities adding custom strings to them is not a great idea for compatibility. So maybe it should just record IDs of randomized characters in its own files.

    Hey folks,
got a few people who pinged me on discord that the mod is no longer working and I'll have a look soon what the issue might be :)

I apparently don't get notifications from comments here, so feel free to ping me in discord if things break, and the moment I have some free time I'll see that this is working on the new versions

This was a mod I absolutely couldn't play without it was great and excellent job with it! Is there any chance of getting an update to 1.7? I hate seeing all my kids as little clones I'd love some more individuality

i came back to playing this game, wanted to marry my brother to a nice gal, didnt have the money
came back 10 hours later to find out the option for the marriage is now gone
spent 2 hous trying to figure out whats wrong
tried different mods, none did work
found this one, hopes were up, started the game, crash
if there is a microscopic little chance this mods gets updates, i will forevewr be happy knowing that i dont have to start a new playthrough yet again.

This works for 1.5.9 but not 1.5.10 right?

    Nope! Crashes on 1.5.9 too
