Wealth Beyond Measure

A fully featured and modern banking system complete with new currencies, bank accounts, loans, interest, and investments. Configurable through MCM and a host of other features.

Source Available Here

Requirements
  • MWSE
  • Dynamic Object Replacer (only if you want the new currencies to occasionally replace Gold found in the world)
  • Septim Gold and Dwemer Dumacs (my copper and silver coins are based on Static's textures so I strongly recommend this mod for the vanilla coins)

Details
Taking inspiration from the classics like IndyBank and Wealth Within Measure, my approach aims to add an immersive and configurable banking experience with a suite of features, including:

Imperial Bank Menu
Several NPCs in the world (including some in mods) now have an additional menu option next to Training and Barter called Imperial Bank. Clicking on this will open a new menu from which most of the mods features can be accessed.

Bank Accounts
The first option is to create an account with the Imperial Bank. There is a one-time fee to open that is dependent on the player's Mercantile skill (most things in the mod will influence and be influenced by the Mercantile skill). This fee ranges from 495 septims at level 1 to 5 septims at level 99 and the fee is waived for a master of Mercantile. Once the fee is paid your account is opened the Account button will become visible. In that menu you can deposit septims or withdraw septims later on. The bank account is consistent and accessible through any NPC that offers Imperial Bank services.

You can view your balance, interest rate, and expected interest gain on this screen as well (more on interest below).

You will also gain a small amount of Mercantile XP (configurable) every time interest is compounded.

Loans
The next option is the Loans button. In this menu you can take new loans and pay off existing loans. Once you have an active loan the menu will update with relevant information including principal amount, interest rate, and the time left to pay off the loan in full. The max number of loans the player can have at once is their Mercantile divided by 25, with a minimum of 1.

There is also a limit on the amount of funds that can be borrowed in a single loan which is the player's Mercantile multiplied by 500, so a 500 septim max at 1 and a 50,000 septim max for a master.

Like the bank account, every time a loan compounds interest a small amount of Mercantile XP will be gained (configurable, but by default a quarter as much as the bank rate).

The default loan repayment period is 7 days, however this varies depending on the loaner's Mercantile skill versus the player's Mercantile skill.

There is also a default mandatory repayment period of 14 days, after which the loan will be written off and the player will accrue a bounty equal to the unpaid amount. However, due to how crime works in Morrowind, a bounty of 5000 or more will make guards attack you on sight, so the loan bounty will never increase your bounty over 5000 (4999 max). The only exception is if your bounty is already over 5000, in which case the full unpaid loan amount will be added.

Investments
The third option is the Investments menu where you can purchase shares of various commodities on Vvardenfell. The maximum number of shares held at once is directly equal to the player's Mercantile.

There are sixteen commodities that range in initial price and volatility. Volatility ranges from 1 (least volatile) to 5 (most volatile), and the daily price fluctuations depend on how volatile the stock is. So, a low volatility stock will change less (relative to its previous price) than a high volatility stock.

The commodities are as follows (Name - Volatility - Initial Price):

  • Saltrice - 2 - 500
  • Steel - 3 - 500
  • Gems - 5 - 2000
  • Textiles - 3 - 1000
  • Wickwheat - 1 - 100
  • Kwama - 4 - 1000
  • Silver - 3 - 1500
  • Hides - 1 - 500
  • Fish - 4 - 100
  • Iron - 2 - 250
  • Ebony - 4 - 2500
  • Spirits - 5 - 1500
  • Produce - 1 - 250
  • Guars - 3 - 1000
  • Gold - 2 - 2000
  • Glass - 5 - 1500

These are not changeable via the MCM, however if you really wish to adjust them to your liking you may do so by editing the common.lua file in a text editor (they're near the top).

The day-to-day price change formula is a bit complicated to explain so if you're curious you can find the formula and calculation in common.lua under the investments category. The exact formula takes into account the volatility, player Mercantile, player Luck, and a random element.

When you sell shares at a profit, a configurable amount of Mercantile XP is gained.

As of 1.2.0, there are now two new MCM options for controlling investment share price resets. There is a default period of 14 days (set to 0 to disable), after which all share prices will reset to their initial values. There is also a button to reset share prices on demand. These are to prevent exorbitant share prices over time as I find a better balance for the investment formula.

Paper Bills and Currency Exchange
Finally, we have the Currency Exchange menu where you can manually exchange copper septims (Gold has been renamed to Copper) for various denominations of paper bills, as well as Silver and Gold Septims.

There is also an auto convert feature when using the dialogue menu, so all paper septims are silently converted to usable gold behind the scenes. That way, you can purchase items, training, inn rooms, and anything else using your paper septims. Excellent for a mod that adds weight to gold and incentivizes depositing large amounts into your account or converting to lighter paper bills. I personally use Worth Its Weight.

If you also have my MWSE Dynamic Object Replacer, the new coins and bills can be seamlessly found wherever there is Gold in the world. Obviously, higher denominations have a much lower chance of being swapped with a 1 septim coin.

Integration
By default, only the Census and Excise Office Agent in Seyda Neen (Socucius Ergalla), the East Empire Company Chief in Ebonheart (Canctunian Ponius), the Hlaalu and Redoran treasurers in the Vivec Great House Vaults (Beldrose Dralor and Baren Alen) offer the services. I searched UESP and was unable to find if Telvanni also had a treasurer or equivelant NPC to add services to but had no luck. If you know any fitting NPCs for House Telvanni or House Indoril in Tamriel Rebuilt please let me know so I can add them! Additionally, the Imperial Bank menu is automatically added to any NPC who is a Banker or Pawnbroker (optional, but enabled by default) based on their class or name:

  • "Banker" (Generic catch-all for any mod that adds a Banker class)
  • "banker_" (IndyBank)
  • "T_Glb_Banker" (Tamriel Rebuilt)
  • "Pawnbroker" (all vanilla and mod added Pawnbrokers now offer banking services. This is an optional MCM setting, but is enabled by default.

Configuration
Finally, almost everything including formula multipliers, rates, and XP gain can be customized in the MCM.
