Support for keyboard / mouse wheel / controller navigation
The Shop Around menu can now be navigated without using the mouse pointer. Movement keys, mouse wheel, and controller Dpad, can all be used to highlight an option. Activate or Attack can be used to select the option.
Great mod. Will there be an opportunity to buy books in the future? Because now it can only be stolen (for example, booksellers in Mournhold) Although this may be due to the fact that you can either read a book and then buy it, or just buy it, but without knowing what's inside. There is no universal option
I think I have a way to deal with this. I can make it so that activating a book that's for sale, brings up a menu that has the option to buy but also an option to read the book as normal. Does that sound like a useable solution?
After playing with shop around in MWSE for a while, I think simply crouching to read books is the most streamlined experience. Considering you have to already be in the book menu to take/steal it in the first place, its comparatively a lot harder to accidentally steal. And I think adding a menu would feel way more clunky. Or as the user above suggested a buy button in the book menu when standing and interacting with a book in a shop
I'm endorsing this mod. The pickup animation is such a little thing but it feels great.
The shopping around is a really fun mechanic but I rarely use it because I'm used to going straight to barter menu. Trying to do it more because it is really fun!
I also like the additions (sneak to steal) you made possible.
I second the other comment here that I would LOVE a "use immediately" button. Like pressing "shift" to enter the use immediately mode, with an icon next to the reticle similar to the coins in the "shop around" functionality.
Would be great for immersion and interactivity, and pair extremely well with needs mods where you actually need to eat.
Feature request: Could you add a 'use immediately' keybinding option to enable you to consume or equip items from the game world directly? Arx Fatalis has such a key and it really ads to the immersive sim experience.
What this adds: - Extra immersion: why do you put a piece of crabmeat that is laying on a plate in your pocket first before eating it? - Timesaves - Facilitates experimentation. Players are likely more inclined to equip things or drink potions they would not try if its lost in their massive inventory after picking it up.
Imagine you are in combat and you see a damage scroll or a health potion laying around. You can just quickly equip it instantly etcetc.. An all round nice feature.
Interesting idea. Perfectly possible to implement as a mod feature, but is this function something that people would actually use in Morrowind gameplay, as opposed to a game like Arx Fatalis?
Just chiming in that I just now missed having this feature while playing Morrowind! Surprised to see it mentioned here, but I second this suggestion.
Especially combined with needs mods where you actually need to eat, it would be great. Eat the crab meat of the plate instead of picking it up, going into the menu, and dragging it onto your portrait.
I think it should be possible to add a similar effect to that when using telekinesis with Animated Pickup. Unfortunately, it looks like the assets from that mod are not marked with free to use modding permissions, so those particular effects won't be able to be used.
If you come across another mod that does have a VFX effect that would look good, and has free to use permissions, let me know.
Ah yeah that's a shame. I will note that fallchildren created this mod which is a sort of OpenMW patch for MM - Enhanced Invisibility and it requires you to install the original mod for it's assets and shaders.
Maybe something like that could be done? I'm not really sure how mod permissions and crediting work.
Adding a general exclusion for rentable beds should be doable. Note that this change means it will no longer use "need sneak to use" to stop you from accidentally using a rentable bed that you haven't paid for. Using a bed you don't own will trigger a Theft event, with any legal consequences that follow.
I'd like to add that I'm experiencing the same "use sneak to steal item" issue after paying for a bed in Ald-ruhn's Ald Skar Inn. I'm sure the issue extends to mod-added rentable beds too, like the ones from The Publicans. I feel an exclusion would be a good idea for this specific usecase. Or some kind of new check centered around them that updates when a specific bed is paid for.
Edit: Experiencing an identical "use sneak to steal item" issue with shrines, such as the Imperial Cult Altar in Vivec's Foreign Quarter Canalworks.
This mod is absolutely great! Though I have one single request: The ability to toggle the red hand icon while Need Sneak to Steal is enabled. I use several other mods that tweak the HUD and/or tell me that I'm in a sneaking state, and so the large red hand clashes pretty hard with them.
Edit: I supposed I've found a manual workaround. Just made the take.dds texture fully transparent.
- ability to change the color of the icon (like trav's OpenMW Books Enhanced). White is a little bit out of the Morrowind color scheme. In the meanwhile, i created 2 icons with a custom color for anyone to use. For some reason i can't match the same color used by Books Enhanced, no matter how much i tweak the colors, but there you go.
- If the owner is killed, the buy feature will no longer be active
Thanks for the feedback! Options to customize the colour and position of the Purchase icon can certainly be done. Allowing the buy feature when the owner is dead, is something I duplicated from the original Mod, but that can be changed as well.
This is a mod that I didn't really think I needed until I saw DarkElfGuy show off the MWSE version in his videos, and now I'm so happy it exists. I don't know why it makes picking things up so much more satisfying. Thank you!!
Go to Settings-->Scripts-->Animated Pickup and check that the settings for Need Sneak and Direct Purchase are both un-ticked. If both of these settings are disabled, and you still can't pick up anything, then it's possible another mod that also intercepts item activation is interfering with this one.
The red hand icon is a warning that if you click activate, it will not stop you from taking (and stealing) the item.
Did you try all combinations of the two settings I mentioned? I have had some reports of users having problems with Android in the past, so it may not be possible to fix this incompatibility at the present time.
Humbly, i think i did. Though am wary of testing this moment because game takes literally 2 minutes to load (might be the Voices of Vvardenfal's huge size).
Hi. After updating to the latest version 0.49 of OpenMW, I've noticed that with this mod active, pressing the right mouse button during a dialogue causes it to disappear, even during a choice selection (which is a bit dangerous because it can break quests). This was tested on a fresh installation and a new save without other mods installed.
Looks like a piece of experimental code was left in the script that shouldn't be there. It's a feature to allow any UI window to be closed using a right mouse click. I'll update it so the right mouse click only closes the purchase dialogue box for Shop Around.
Oh, so it was just a coincidence that I didn’t notice that feature until I updated OpenMW, and the new version had nothing to do with it. My mistake. Thanks for the update!

For the aforementioned reasons it would add to the Morrowind experience just as it does for Arx, both games are similar enough on that respect.
Worst case its just an option a small amount of people use. To me its a little thing that adds a lot to the immersion. I'd bind it to right click.

Have you considered adding the effects from MM - Enhanced Telekinesis for when you pick things up with telekinesis?

I have one question.
Can you please exclude "beds" from "need to sneak to use"?
edit:
Balmora Council Club.
Pay for beds. Need to sneak to use.

Balmora Eights Plates.

I can point more locations.

I wasn't aware that shrines trigger this as well. I'll look into it.

Thanks again for the amazing mod.
Also, are you running OpenMW on Android?
