Dave's Furniture Store Plug-In v2.01
for TES: Morrowind - September 2003
Dave Humphrey - [email protected]
http://www.m0use.net/~uesp/
Erstam - [email protected]
This plugin adds over 400 furniture items that you can pick up and move, allowing
you to completely alter your own house layout while in the game... the only thing
you gotta find is an empty house (now supplied as well). Items include all the
typical house furnishings (tables, chairs, beds, etc...), plants and trees for
decorating outside your house, and even placeable containers so you can store all
your loot.
FEATURES
-------------------------------------------------
- Over 400 new items that you can pick up, drop, and carry.
- A furniture store in Balmora (near the Temple), Hla Oad (just South of town)
and Vivec (North along the road from the Foreign Quarter) where you can buy
all the furniture you want.
- A 'magic' ring which will allow you to lock most furniture items in place
so you cannot accidently move them.
- A variety of plants and planters for your very own garden.
- New lights (including fires) to light up your home just the way you want.
- 7 new, empty homes which are purchased from Alorit Tiann in the Grand
Council Chamber in Ebonheart. They cost anywhere from 40,000 (small shack in
Hla Oad) to 1.2 million (grand mansion in Ebonheart).
- Buy strange and unique items in the Thrift Shop near Hla Oad. Includes Armor
Dummies, summonable lockpicks, probes and hammers (so you'll never run out)
and few sets of unique armor (total worth well in the millions, if you have
the cash).
NEW FEATURES AND CHANGES IN V2.0
-------------------------------------------------
- Larger objects have collision - you can now jump onto tables instead of
walking through them.
- Simpler and more intuitive placement of containers.
- Some items can be moved after you have placed them (a feature brought back
in; the scripts are working now).
- Enhanced Furniture Ring, with options to align items to the world axes, and
to change furniture movement speed.
- New armor mannequins that can be carried and picked up again, and set up to
eight different poses. They are now available at the furniture shops in
Balmora and Vivec as well.
- Many more Morrowind and Tribunal stock items, and a few extras (display
cases!)
- Prices, weights, and container capacities have been revised in many cases.
- Diversified shops: Vendors are no longer mere clones of their counterparts
in the other towns, and the Vivec shop interior is furnished differently
than the Balmora shop.
REQUIREMENTS AND COMPATIBILITY
-------------------------------------------------
Now Tribunal is required. This is because some script functions only available
in the expansions play a vital role in the new furniture scripts.
Due to changes in object definitions, DH Furniture 2.0+ is not compatible with
savegames played with earlier versions. You have to uncheck the old ESPs first,
then load the game and resave, before you can activate the v2.0 plugins. You will
lose any furniture you've already bought, but this is inevitable - otherwise
you're bound to encounter lots of problems.
This mod is not compatible with Balmora Expansion. BE already includes
version 1.6 of the shop (moved to the eastern part of town).
INSTALLATION
-------------------------------------------------
There are several plugins that you must enable in order to use the furniture
content, as described below.
DH_FURN.ESP - Contains all the furniture items. Needed for the
dh_furn_stores.esp and dh_thriftshop.esp to work.
DH_FURN_STORES.ESP - Adds a furniture store in Balmora, Hla Oad, and Vivec.
You need this if you want to be able to actually buy
some furniture.
DH_HOMES.ESP - Adds a variety of empty homes and a new NPC in the
Grand Council Chamber in Ebonheart who will sell them
to you.
DH_THRIFTSHOP.ESP - Adds a thrift shop near Hla Oad where you can buy a
number of strange and unique objects.
Simply unzip this archive to the "Morrowind\Data Files" folder. Make sure the
"Extract Pathnames" option (or similar, depends on your archiver program) is
active. The files should go to their proper locations.
UPDATING FROM VERSION 2.0 TO 2.01
-------------------------------------------------
You can update from version 2.0 without losing your furniture. Just follow these
instructions:
1) Enter an interior cell (NOT one of the furniture shops), then save. Exit the
game.
2) In the Morrowind Launcher, uncheck dh_furn_stores.esp and dh_thriftshop.esp,
leave the other plugins active.
3) Start Morrowind, load your savegame, ignore any error messages. Save again.
4) Replace the old dh_furn_stores.esp and dh_thriftshop.esp with the new ones,
and activate them again.
PLAYING THE PLUGIN
-------------------------------------------------
DH_FURN NOTES
-------------------------------------------------
This plug-in adds over 400 new furniture items that can be picked up and carried
like regular objects. Mostly the existing NIF models were used and new MISC
objects with new inventory icons were created. All the basic furniture types are
there: chairs, beds, shelves, benchs, plants, banners, cushions, fireplaces,
rugs, tables, etc... I have tried to give the objects a reasonable price and
weight. You don't need to be too rich to purchase most of the items, although
you might have to make several trips (or get some strength enhancing magics).
The largest and heaviest objects have been given "sub-realistic" weights though,
so it won't need a superhero character to carry them.
Most furniture objects you've bought (besides some small objects that act like
any other misc item in the game) can be freely placed around as long as you still
have the menu open. Once you leave the menu mode, the item becomes "fixed",
preventing you from accidentally picking it up.
Included with the new furniture items is a magic 'Furniture Ring'. When you equip
the ring you receive an option (among others) to enable or disable the moving of
furniture. What happens if you try to activate a "fixed" item depends on the
"Placement Mode" setting:
- If Placement Mode is off, the objects show their default activation like the
regular items in the game: containers will open, beds give you the rest menu,
but most items will do nothing at all.
- If Placement Mode is on, you get a menu with several options, including its
default activation, picking it up, and leaving it alone.
This allows you to set up your house as you like and then 'lock' most of the
larger items in place, so that you can't accidentally move them or pick them up.
You'll notice that, unlike in earlier versions of this plugin, the player and
other actors no longer can walk through large furniture objects. This holds for
solid items above the size of a chair, or items that are supposed to block your
path, like wall screens.
Another feature of the Furniture Ring is the option to align dropped items to the
world axes, in steps of 45 degrees. This helps you to line up the furniture items
with walls and other objects. When this option is enabled, bar parts will also
snap to a x/y grid so you can put them neatly together without having to fiddle
around for hours.
Several objects can be moved after they have been placed in the game world. These
are objects that normally don't stand on the ground, like shelves, banners,
tapestries, hanging lanterns, and others. Most of them already pop to some
reasonable height at the moment you've dropped them. When Placement Mode is on,
the object's activation menu shows a button "Move...". Select this option, and in
the next menu the direction you want it to go. To stop it, activate it again
within 15 seconds after it started moving. If you wait longer, it will snap back
to the place it started from. This is to ensure you can't lose an object when it
moves through a wall or into some inaccessible place.
You can use the Furniture Ring to switch between fast and slow movement speed.
Containers are now placed like any other furniture object, and can also be picked
up again. This is much more intuitive and realistic than in the 1.x versions of
the plugin (no more summoning rings), but it has a certain drawback. If there are
still items in the container when you pick it up, they will be lost irrevocably,
so take care! You will receive a big fat warning though, and are asked to confirm
your action.
(TECH NOTE - This is because actually the container object is deleted on
picking it up, and a misc item version of it is added to the player's
inventory. Unfortunately, there is no way for a script to check whether a
container is empty, or to transfer its content to the player's inventory.
But I found the improvement in gameplay worth this little danger. And, as
a bye-product, having a method of trashing your surplus loot can be nice
as well :) )
Armor mannequins now are more like regular objects as well, they can be carried
and picked up again as many times you wish. They even can be put into eight
different poses via the activation menu. As with containers, you have to remove
all items from them before you pick them up, or your possessions will be lost.
And, since armor mannequins are much more common these days, their price has
dropped considerably.
Four different display cases are included: the Glass Display Case made by dongle,
and three models from Lady Eternity. The latter ones operate in a special manner
(out of technical reasons, since the lid and the base are different NIF meshes):
once the base has become fixed, the lid is automatically spawned on top of it.
In Placement Mode, you can remove the lid by activating it, place your items
inside, and create a new lid via the base's activation menu.
Besides the furniture objects, a number of plants and trees are available as well,
including ingredient plants that you can harvest. Several things have changed
from earlier versions of the plugin:
Ingredient plants now show the standard 'container' interface when you harvest
them, exactly like all the other plants in the wilderness. The "fast harvesting"
functionality is disabled by default, so you will have to wait the usual three
months until they yield their ingredients again. If you want to be able to
harvest more often, open the console ingame and enter the following line:
set g_dhFurnPlantHarvest to <days>
where <days> (without the brackets) is the number of days after which you can
harvest the plants again. You only need to do this once; the setting is stored in
your savegame. To turn fast harvesting off, set this value to 0 or below.
When you try to pick up a plant again, there is a 25% chance that you destroy it
by damaging its roots. Large trees can not be replanted at all - once you have
put them into place and confirmed it, you have only the choice of cutting them
down. (I originally brought the "root damage" feature in to prevent players from
exploiting the fact that on picking up and redropping an ingredient plant, a new
object is created that can be harvested immediately. But I liked the realism of
this restriction, so I extended it to other plants as well.)
DH_FURN_STORES NOTES
-------------------------------------------------
You can buy the new furniture items from vendors at Balmora, Hla Oad, and near
Vivec. Every furniture vendor also sells you the Furniture Ring and the book "Art
of Furniture Placement", a brief in-game manual.
Balmora Store
Found just outside the northern entrance to town. The shop includes five
salespeople inside and one above, outside selling the plants. You can
find nearly every kind of furniture object there, though not always in
large numbers.
Hla Oad Store
Since Balmora is getting crowded these days, another shop has been opened
in Hla Oad for your convenience. The store is just on the southern edge
of town and again has five salespeople inside and another outside around
the back. This shop has specialized on affordable furniture for the
common people.
Vivec Store
Another shop has been opened near Vivec to service the many homes in
that area. The store is just north along the path from the Foreign
Quarter, close to both the Silt Strider and Shipping Dock (the stores do
not deliver unfortunately) and is modelled after the Balmora shop. You
will find many fine and expensive pieces of furniture there.
All furniture salespeople have a resupplying stock so you'll never run out of
objects that you want, if you have the cash anyways.
Since trading Dwemer items is prohibited by Imperial law, the only vendor who
sells them is now a bit hidden in one of the shops. Keep an eye open, or let the
other vendors tell you if they trust you enough.
DH_HOMES NOTES
-------------------------------------------------
Ahh, so now you have all these wonderful furniture objects to arrange and design
your perfect abode, but no place to put everything. This plugin adds seven homes
of various size and quality around the island that you can purchase for a
'modest' sum. The homes are completely empty and leave the lighting, design, and
use completely up to you.
Hla Oad Shack
This is the cheapest and smallest property available at a measly 40,000
gold. It is located on the northern edge of town along the road. It is a
small, single room shack which is common in the area.
Balmora Home
A small, one room, Hlaalu style home at a price of 60,000 gold. It is
just southeast of town along the road to the Moonmoth Fort.
Seyda Neen Two-Story
A nice little two-story much like other houses in this small community
available for 75,000 gold. The house can be found northwest of town
along the road.
Ald-ruhn House
A typical two floor Redoran hut at a price of 120,000 gold located on the
east side of Ald-ruhn, north of the Temple.
Gnisis Tavern
Previously a tavern and shop, this very spacious property can be bought
for 240,000 gold. It is located just west outside of town along the path.
Sadrith Mora Tower
This magnificant Telvanni tower has lots of rooms and space, though a
levitation spell might come in handy, and is available for a 'mere'
560,000 gold. It is located southeast of Sadrith Mora, east of the
Wolverine Hall along the road out of town.
Ebonheart Walled Mansion
As big as it gets and as expensive too. This walled castle dwarfs all the
other properties and even includes two smaller homes as well.
Unfortunately it is beyond the reach of most mortals with a price of 1.2
million gold (credit is NOT accepted)! It can be found south of Ebonheart
along the road out of town.
It is rumoured that the main mansion contains a number of secret passages.
All of the houses can be purchased from Alorit Tiann found in the Grand Council
Chambers in Ebonheart (main floor). Simply inquire about the various properties
and receive the option to purchase them, assuming you have the cash. You are not
allowed to enter the homes until you buy them. Upon purchase, you receive the
deed to the house and the home is unlocked. You can sell the home back later at
80% of the original price, but only if you have the house deed. Please remember
that when you sell the house back it will become locked once again, so be sure
to move all your belongings out of it first. You can own any number of the houses
at once, if you happen to have enough money anyways.
When you purchase some of the nicer homes there may be a small delay after the
purchase. This is normal and due to a 'feature' in the game where you cannot
remove more than 65536 of an item at once (so you have to remove the gold
multiple times). Similarily if you sell the house back and receive the gold.
Note that his plugin is completely separate from any of the other furniture mods,
so you can use it alone or with other plugins if you wish.
DH_THRIFT_SHOP NOTES
-------------------------------------------------
This plugin adds Shadow's Thrift Shop northeast of Hla Oad where you can purchase
a number of unique objects, if you have the gold of course. Simply find the
entrance (which is not so easy, Shadow likes his solitude) which is along the
ridge northeast or so of Hla Oad, southeast of Balmora near the mines there. Once
you found it, simply speak with Shadow and he'll tell you about the wonderful
deals he has for you (most items are obtained through dialogue).
Mordallis' Enchanted Armor and Clothes
A complete set of various armor and clothing which increases the strength of
the wearer to a phenomenal value. The items are better than what you could
enchant yourself within the game. Prices range from 1000 to 100,000 gold
depending mainly on the item material.
Armor Dummies
Since Armor Mannequins nowadays are manufactured in quite large numbers
throughout the Empire, Shadow's animated magical constructs have become too
expensive to create and sell. He now has the same sort that you can purchase
at the Furniture stores, but in larger numbers. You can obtain them through
his standard barter menu, along with various common items.
Unique Items
There are a number of special items that Shadow will offer you. These
include such things that summon an unlimited supply of lock picks, probes,
and repair hammers (so that you'll never be without). To use these items
merely equip them to summon a new item and automatically equip it. The
summoned objects are relatively low quality so they will not replace benefit
of the higher quality items. The price of these summoning items is around
20,000 gold.
Unique Spells
You can also purchase a variety of special spells rom Shadow. These spells,
although much more expensive than the usual variety, have the benefit of
being cheaper to cast yet have a more powerful effect.
Shadow's Major Healing, 5000 gp
Large instant hitpoint and fatigue healing spell.
Shadow's Great Regeneration, 4500 gp
A long (2 min) slow regeneration of hitpoints and fatigue.
Shadow's Inferno, 7600 gp
A powerful fireball type spell.
Shadow's Hail Storm, 9000 gp
A large area, and long duration, frost damage spell.
Shadow's Calming Aura, 3600 gp
Calms any creature or humanoid at a far distance.
Shadow's Enraging Force, 6100 gp
Cause any creature or humanoid to attack.
Shadow's Innate Knowledge, 5400 gp
Detect magic, key, and creature 100 ft for 1 minute.
Shadow's Fish Fins, 2700 gp
2 minute water breathing and swift swim spell.
Shadow's Long Arm, 4300 gp
A long range telekinesis spell.
Shadow's Portable Army, 10500 gp
A powerful spell that summons 3 atronachs and a golden saint for 1 minute.
Shadow's Bird Flight, 7800 gp
A fast 1 minute levitation and slowfall spell.
