Permissions and credits
Hello

Tamriel Rebuilt contains many unique book models that are used by the mod's own ingame texts. This small archive acts as an addon to several prior book replacers, expanding their changes to TR's internal books.

However, the Morrowind community's outstanding book replacers, unfortunately, have very restrictive permissions, and all change books in different ways. The only way to holistically replacer ingame books is to install several mods in a specific order. This mod is installed after all of them.
Until permissions can be sorted out, and perhaps a compilation can be made, we're just going to have to put up with it. But, it's a good lesson on the often detrimental long-term consequences of modders having restrictive permissions. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

So, here's a mini-guide on setting up a holistic model replacer suite for all vanilla and TR books:
Install these in the order listed.

  • install Connary's Elder Scrolls: http://mw.modhistory.com/download-42-5742 they're still the very best and effect numerous models.
  • Install better models from the RR Mod Series: https://www.nexusmods.com/morrowind/mods/43266?tab=files&file_id=1000017015. For this guide, you just need to install the books and scrolls package. By the end of this, only the scroll models and textures will be used, the rest is about to be overwritten.
  • Install a book texture replacer: I recommend Illy's dirty books https://download.fliggerty.com/download-11-715, as they fit Morrowind pretty well.  Arukinn's Better Books also works, but some of his page textures contain depicts of Jesus Christ, and I'm not sure that's lore friendly (unless that happened in ESO?)
  • Install Melchior's Magnificient Manuscripts https://www.nexusmods.com/morrowind/mods/45626. It replaces the vanilla book models with some absolutely sexy new models. These models are the base for the ones included in those mod (I literally just rescaled them to match TR's book's dimensions).
  • Install Stupostar's Switchable Scriptures: https://www.nexusmods.com/morrowind/mods/46680. This is the big one. It replacers both Melchoir's and RR's book and scroll models with models that are openable ingame, and contains the mwse-lua scripts that allow you to do so. Active/install the core, MD books +Illys Dirty Book and RR scrolls only sub-packages (00, 02, 06). This overwrites the prior-mod's models, but the new models still require the custom textures from those mods (which is the reason we had to install them: the textures are prerequisites). So you should now have switch-enabled versions of RR's scrolls, and switch-enabled versions of MD's books using Illy's textures. Wowee.
  • Install this, finally.

But Wolli!? The TR books still have low res textures compared to the others? Yep, I know. Unfortunately, all the texture replacers are locked behind a wall of permissions, unlike the model replacers. For personal use, I recolored a few of Illy and Arukinn's replacers and assigned them to TR books, but I can't release that. It's something you'll have to do for yourself.

At this point, a single, unified book replacer package with all new open permission textures would be a dream, and probably a group effort.

Credits!
Thanks to good old Melchior Dahrk, MVP.
And Stupostar, who's equally awesome.
