About this mod

Aims to make Morrowind more suitable for playing with young children.

I never got around to publishing this until my now 8 year old daughter started playing Morrowind with me and said she found it a bit scary and could I make a mod to make it less scary. "Way ahead of you" I said. Here is what I made for her when she was 3.

2020 Original Description:

It was only a matter of time until my three year old insisted on giving Morrowind a go. First time we played was rather limiting, we had to stay in town the whole time and we ran out of money after renting a bed and buying some food and a book. I wanted to go picking mushrooms with her but I didn't want to risk running into anything that could give her nightmares. So she went off to find some IRL money (so we could buy some more in-game books), and I took to the Construction Set. This is what I came up with, inspired by my little daughter:

Creatures and NPCs Made Passive

- Removed Gaenor (The aggro Bosmer in Mournhold)
- Set iFightAlarmMult, iFightAttack, iFightAttacking, iFightDistanceBase, iFightKilling, iFightPickpocket and iFightTrespass to 0
- Lowered the fight value to 90 for creatures that previously had a fight level of 100

No Drowning

All races now come with permanent water breathing.

NPCs Shoudn't Attack You for Stealing

Set fAlarmRadius, fCrimeStealing, fDispPickPocketMod, fDispStealing, iAlarmPickPocket, iCrimeStealing, iCrimeTrespass to 0

If your little one accidentally picks something up that isn't theirs, NPCs will no longer try to kill the player character.

In this version (1.0) NPCs will not react at all. I would ideally like to make it so they still run their thief audio lines but I do not yet know how to do this. Any help much appreciated.

Scary Things Removed

Removed:

- Large Slaughterfish
- Draugr
- Corprus Stalkers
- Bonewalkers
- Bonewolves
- Fleshy Corpses
- Ash Zombies
- Dark Brotherhood Assassins
- Vampires and Cattle
- Tarhiel (The Wizard who falls screaming to his death)

More Polite NPCs

All races now start with x2 personality so NPCs will greet you more politely.

Removed References to Rape

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
(The changes within these dotted lines were made for Less Triggering Morrowind by Glittergear,
thank you to Glittergear for giving me permission to include them here.)

----Items----
"Scroll of Manarape" is now "Scroll of Blue Death." It's itemID is now
"sc_bluedeath" and its enchantment is now "sc_bluedeath_en"
---NPCs---
Anhaedra's dialogue in the Tribunal Temple quest "Pilgrimage to Maar
Gan" has been changed from "After I kill you, I will rape
your corpse. Don't worry, I'll be gentle" to "After I kill you,
I will desecrate your corpse!"
Hroldar the Strange's dialogue was changed from "If you're part of
this accursed plot to rape the land, you'll suffer the same
fate as all the rest!" to "If you're part of this accursed
plot to poison the land...."
Molag Bal's dialogue during the Vampire Cure quest to have less
obvious implications
---Books---
Removed "King of Rape" after Molag Bal's name. It showed up a LOT, and
it seemed a little excessive. The following books have been
affected:
36 Lessons of Vivec, 12, 14, and 22
House of Troubles
Varieties of Faith in the Empire
Removed instances from the following:
Notes on Racial Phylogeny
Palla, Book I
Poison Song I
Withershins
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I made further changes to the topic "taunt Daedra" as follows:

tauntCount 0 Vanilla: "Your threats are weak like your flesh, mortal."
Changed to: Your rude words won't hurt me!

tauntCount 1 vanilla: "Continue with your insults, mortal. I long to feast on your marrow."
Changed to: If you keep bothering me, I'm not going to be happy.

tauntCount 2 vanilla: "Ha! Fine words from one born from the wrong end of a guar."
Unchanged.

tauntCount 3 vanilla: "After I kill you, I will rape your corpse. Don't worry. I'll be gentle."
Changed to: Oh I should get you real good you know, you big silly!

And I removed the mod fight so he won't attack the player.

Filtered Dunmer "Where is that slave?" idle lines to only be spoken by Telvanni. And filtered Argonian male line "Master was right to discipline us. We are foolish." to only be spoken by male Argonian slaves.

Removed swearing, fat-shaming, uses of the words 'whore' and 'harlot' and outfit-specific greetings

**DISCLAIMER**

This mod will NOT protect the player from all instances of harm or attack. Please be aware of the following:

- Fall damage and lava damage is unchanged

- NPCs and creatures will still attack the player if the player attacks them first (best to set the ready weapon keys to the other side of the keyboard)

- As far as I know I have removed baseline hostility from all creatures and NPCs, however, Morrowind contains many scripted events that could still allow an NPC or creature to attack the player, for example Fjol, the Nord outlaw outside Hla Oad will still attack if you talk to him about "murderous outlaws" and refuse to give him any gold. You will still be attacked for entering the Ministry of Truth and Ordinators will still attack you for speaking to them whilst wearing Indoril armor. Take care out there!  (Note, the reason I didn't stop all scripted attacks was really just down to time and scope, if someone wants to expand on this to make it more complete, please feel free.)

- Likewise, there may be scripted events similar to the falling wizard that I have overlooked or did not know about, things that could still be upsetting for some children/parents.

Please bear these things in mind when playing this mod. Personally I still sit with (under) my child while she plays so I can be on hand with console commands, guidance and reassurance if needed.
**END OF DISCLAIMER**

Recommended Mods

Graphic Herbalism - MWSE and OpenMW Edition - I'd also recommend Glowing Bitter Coast and the patch available on the Graphic Harbalism - MWSE and OpenMW Edition page under Optional Files, within " GH Patches and Replacers" (only extract the bits you need for Glowing Bitter Coast).

Better Expansion Implementation - Pure Exploration stops you from being attacked by the Dark Brotherhood anyway but I would still recommend Better Expansion Implementation because your toddler, like most of us, probably doesn't want to listen to everyone talk about Solstheim. Load Pure Exploration after Better Expansion Implementation.

Half11's "The Publicans" is probably worth getting as well. - It adds the ability to rent beds in towns where previously you couldn't

Quick Char - Makes character generation at the start of the game really fast

Scummy Scum - Makes scummy ponds look more like ponds rather than grass (Requires Lougian's Scum Replacer)

The Role They Were to Play - Changes the intro cinematic from "he" to "they to refer to the player character

If you only have a Mac or Linux computer then obviously you are going to need OpenMW, but if you have a powerful PC, I would recommend OpenMW for PC users too, as it makes it much less likely that you will get stuck in/on things, which is pretty important when playing with a little one, who might get confused, distracted or frustrated more easily.

If you do go the OpenMW route though, I recommend this mod which makes the water look a lot nicer, and more like it did in the original engine.

Compatibility

Aside from the mods recommended above (and the usual ones that make the vanilla engine more bearable if going that route) I would advise against using anything else. Many other mods that are not just pluginless graphical replacers will likely stop this mod working properly. It will definitely not work with Tamriel Rebuilt and I imagine the same will be true for Morrowind Rebirth. Patch for Purists is probably fine, but if you use it, you might want to download the optional file "Does my ass look big - Patch for Purists Patch". Patch for Purists adds that line to Nord women on Solstheim, you decide if it's something you're happy with your kids hearing or not.

Installation

Copy the contents of this download into your Morrowind\Data Files
folder.

Make sure to activate the mod in the OpenMW or Morrowind Launcher.

Start a new game and make sure everything is working as expected before playing with your little one.

Have fun!
