Love this mod, have used it in the past, also love that it was conveniently updated to MWSE just in time for my new playthrough. My only question/complaint is about the draw distance of the moths, is there a possibility of an option in the MCM to boost the distance?
Turning the corner from Ra'Virr's shop in Balmora and seeing them pop in before getting to the arch heading down the stairs to the river is the best example I can think of to show how obvious the pop-in can sometimes be. Usually you're not staring directly at a lantern enough to see it, but in cases like that it can be a bit jarring.
The pop-in distance is handled through the mesh LOD distance settings, which would take some tweaking to make adjustable in-game but I think it's possible. Personally I haven't noticed any jarring pop-ins while testing though.
Yeah like I said, usually you're not staring directly at a lantern as you go past it in normal gameplay. The one instance in Balmora was the worst offender I could think of from my testing, simply because the draw distance seems to be almost exactly the distance between Ra'virr's shop door to the lantern, and the lantern on the stairs is at eye height as you're walking down to the river, so as soon as you turn the corner to the right and take a couple steps you can see them spawn in.
Fantastic mod that adds immersion, but sadly don't work with no flickering mods. Flickering is killing my eyes and can't play with it. Is it possible to make patch for it? For mod https://www.nexusmods.com/morrowind/mods/47133 ?
From my recent playing with it over the past week or so, I can confirm that the new MWSE version of this works with the MWSE version of True Lights and Darkness' flicker remover, if you're still playing.
Hi, can I ask if the moth model and texture are free to use assets? I'm interested in adding lantern moths as an additional option for dynamically added effects in my mod Dynamic Candle Smoke.
For any interested OpenMW users, I've made a lua based version of this mod as an added feature in Dynamic Candle Smoke. Flying moths will appear around lanterns in exterior cells, during night hours. This effect is applied dynamically, without the need for ESP or save file modification, so should be compatible with everything.
This adaption is a lighter version of what Nocturnal Moths does, as I've left out the sound effects and the weather adaption function. There is a new feature added, you can extend the LOD distance of the animated moths so they can be seen further away.
Thanks to R-Zero for allowing the animated moth model to be used as a free to use resource.
Hey is it possible to get a version without the sound, i used to just delete the sound file, and it would work, but it seems to break the entire things nowadays.
EDIT: nvm, i figured out how to disable it in the config, cheers for that.
It breaks all the lanterns roughly on a monthly basis, but I am still using it. Gladly, reactivating the mod and cleaning the save fixes everything. Worth it, can recommend.

Would it be possible to get an MCM option to disable them in interiors?
