Dynamic Ambient Visual Effects
( formerly "Dynamic Candle Smoke" )
Adds new visual effects to certain game areas and objects as you play, enhancing the ambient atmosphere of locations as you explore. Effects are added using dynamic added VFX objects, with no alterations to existing cells or objects, which should mean no conflicts with your other installed mods, or bloating your save file.
Candles emit smoke.
Moths gather around lanterns at night.
Lightning strikes at Dwemer ruins.
Blight clouds and lightning over Red Mountain, visible at far distance.
Floating dust particles in tombs and crypts.
While the presence of some of these effects might be judged to be overly exaggerated (e.g. candles don't emit smoke. This is not at all a realistic effect), I think the pleasant ambient effect they can add to the game outweighs any issues of realism.
The settings page allows customising all Visual Effects individually. Includes options to disable, to choose what conditions will trigger them, tailor their appearance, or to reduce their frequency of placement.
Due to the way the VFX system currently works, there are some issues that you should be aware of :
If a candle is under a shelf when smoke is attached, the smoke trail will end up going through the shelf. Checks are now done to try and stop this from happening. No smoke will appear if a shelf is too near.
If you remove a candle that has smoke attached, the smoke will remain there until you leave the cell. For this reason, there is an option in Settings to disable smoke for any candles that are carriable.
