Palicoes and Palamutes
A comparison video I made for my Steam guide, as reaction to all the "which is better? Palamutes or Palicoes?" talk ~
The MHR Overlay by GreenComfyTea was very helpful for this comparison since it allowed such detailed selections of what counts as damage and what not - allowing the probably most precise comparison possible with the tools available on Nexus mods. I like to recommend that mod for people who are curious about such kind of numbers, as it does not offer a wide-range of stat analysis tools, but also seems to me the most easiest and most professional looking one among many choices.
If you are looking for a final conclusion on which are better - Palamutes or Palicoes - it is simple: both are great and it depends entirely on your personal preferences. I am no "Speed Runner", and I enjoy Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak my way. I consider myself a casual huntress in that regards, what makes in my opinion the comparison and its results meaningful for most players.
It is easy to see in the video that it is true, Palamutes with the Silkbinder cannon do significant damage. And yet I had more fun with Palicoes.
My tip: Assist Palicoes for Anomaly (Investigation) Quests. Where they once used to be Rampage "professionals", the fact that afflicted by Qurio monsters are just normal monsters which can be trapped, make Assist Palicoes incredible strong enablers for the endgame content. Make sure not to miss out on them!
==== From my Guide on Steam ====
For Team Palamutes I have chosen a setup which comes closest to what is currently preferred by "Speed Runners". Ideally I would have them to use Poison weapons as they are known for a very quick status alignment build up. Since that would not fit with the target monster, a Golden Rathian, I have them use Paralysis weapons instead.
For Team Palicoes I have taken my favourite Palicoes as they are, with the skills and Support Moves unchanged from how I have them along for normal hunts. No special adjustments, since I was curious too how they will fare in comparison. If the results would have turned out too different, I might have tried differents loadouts. But the comparison turned out a success with the expected results.
In the clip you can clearly see, that good support will not pale when compared to a > 100% higher damage output. By the end of the day the best fitting choice of Buddies is what fits your personal preferences best.
