So as a preface I am taking a break from MGS modding (just a break!) but I'd like to say I originally had a plan of trying that. The problem with the voices is that the game doesn't like when you try and alter the enemy voices. Naturally the first thing that comes to mind when I say that is "Well IH is able to do it!" well yes and no. Yes when you use IH you can alter the enemy type in free roam but that system is quite rigid and only allows the loading sound banks that are in the game already (English, Afrikaans, Russian). This isn't a huge problem cause I could have just loaded the english one right? Wrong. The languages sound banks are tied to the enemy types. If I wanted to load the english voice banks I'd have to change the enemies that show up in the mission. IH does this automatically by loading the enemy type before you load the map. My goal was to not have to actually change the enemy type so you could play the story with the mod active.
As of right now the gist is that the skin switch works, you can play the whole game with the soviets model swapped, the downside is that there is no voice acting. If people want to I could release a version that keeps the original russian, but for me I found it more immersive to just have the silence.
I feel like I wasn't clear enough as to what was going on with the voices and I'm using this comment to explain the technical aspects for anyone interested :)
Why not make them IH soldier addons, like the Genome Soldiers? Or have them replace XOF, so that you can then replace the Soviets with XOF in IH and they'll automatically have English voices? I feel like that'd be a pretty good solution, and with Zeta it *might* be easy to just disable it before playing Mission 30 or Mission 0
I made this a long time ago, before IH let you replace enemy soldiers and before zeta. This mod is pretty dated and I don't really have the energy to do all that with it.
Thx for great mod. Is there any way to install this, but without Sound/Speech replace at all? Only new models, flag, etc, with old/default russian voices?
Now that Infinite Heaven allows for changing CP types have you considered making this an IH addon? love this mod btw US flag patches would add alot to it as well I think
can you make them a separate faction like the Peace Sentinels mod for IH? I really love the vanilla soviet options as well as your mod and I really want to switch on the run instead of opening and closing the game to switch mods, still very good mod thank you so much!
