I don't like Jacob, but I don't understand why the comment about EDI is offensive. Tali is about to become the ship's engineer, she has to get to know the ship. But I like Thane part. The guy who works for money can't criticise someone who works for free just because he is an assassin.

Its not necessarily offensive, its rather unnecessary as some might describe it. Version 2.1 has the Tali changes as optional.

I mean... Tali's people lost their home planet to rogue AIs that were originally made to be their servants. Jacob saying "be sure to introduce yourself to *our* AI" always seemed sort of out of touch? I always saw it as an oversight on his part, like an "oh s#*!, did I say that to the quarian??" but some people I suppose see it as an intentional slight. Basically like, "hey, AIs ruined your race. We have one too, you know."

I used to read it that way - but then I remembered that Tali was consistently kind of a b&@*$ to Jacob because of who he worked for. Which is fair...but also Jacob's trying really hard to put her fears to rest. Boring as he is, Jacob really is a good guy. And Tali's not giving him a chance, even though Shepard clearly is.

So it makes sense for Tali to be a b&@*$, given that Cerberus killed her people (and did all the ME1 shenanigans). But it also makes sense for that to eventually annoy Jacob, who's trying to be a righteous dude, despite the friction.

So while I used to view the EDI comment as a faux pas, and think Jacob was a dumbass for bringing it up - I now see it as actually a very polite rebuke.

Either its like he's saying "Yeah yeah, Cerberus BAD, I get it. But you unleashed the Geth, so shut the f*#@ up." or maybe it's like "Yeah yeah, Cerberus BAD, but you're working for them now. Enjoy the True AI b&@*$, cuz she's EVERYWHERE." LOL

Should we focus on his role, his character, his choices, or his "contributions"?

...I don't suppose there's a version of this mod where we can punch Jacob after he makes said comments instead?

Honestly I'd like a mod that would remove all of Jacob's dialogue until he volunteers to go into the vent

"Get in there you moron, be useful for once in your life"

I appreciate the options. I understood Jacob's reasoning for his comments to Thane - rude/hostile as they were. The comment to Tali seemed more like a dig, which felt a bit odd as Jacob didn't come across as the typical 'human supremacist' or even particularly loyal to Cerberus. Just a bit of an idealist who wanted to get things done. Cerberus was a way for him to achieve what gave him meaning.

    Thanks for sharing :)

As annoying as I find Jacob, consider this:

-Jacob is cordial to start off with. He praises Tali's skills and the value she will add to the team.
-Tali immediately says "I don't know who you are, but you're Cerberus. Don't make nice."
-Jacob admits that Cerberus wronged the Quarians, but points out he had nothing to do with it. He expresses hope that they can get along.
-Tali makes a quip about Shepard planning to blow Cerberus up, and offers to loan them a grenade.
-Jacob decides to point out that the Quarians have made their own mistakes by mentioning EDI.

I don't think it was a dig necessarily. I think it was a "hey, your poop stinks too, lady" type thing.

Thank you, thank you, thank you!! I hate Jacob anyway, but this part and his snotty comment to Tali just ticks me off to no end!! Jacob is the worst character in the series for me, but those two encounters make me livid. I wish there was a way just to delete him from the series. I've killed him on the base I dunno how many times and think of the Kai Leng moment with a that's for Thane :P

This is so great, I am restoring my game so I can have it, so worth it!

Amazing job on fixing some aspects of Jacob's character! Now all that would be left is for somebody to release a mod, which removes his xenophobic jealousy comments towards Thane and Garrus, so he's somewhat likeable in ME2.

I looked up the Thane and Garrus xenophobia you mentioned Serph2012 and i assume its the scenes where you dunp jabob for the two? Imo that doesnt really warrant removal due to the emotional state he is in when you dump him. Not to mention the fact that you'd have to try to romance him and then dump him for either of the two in order to get those comments in the first place. Those lines are certainly removable however.

The reason I don't like the Tali one is it just comes off snotty and unnecessary. Perhaps it is more tone than words. The one with Thane is ridiculous, Zaeed is there because of money and if you think about it, Kasumi is only there because of a deal, which payment doesn't always mean money. Their recruitments are different, however, because they were just added on team members after the original game so the easiest way to write them in was making it a "payment" kind of deal. Once you remove them, Jacob's comment to Thane is really, really messed up. With Tali, she is pretty young and Qurians have so much hate in-game to them and add in the Cerberus issues, his comment just feels like a snotty little remark that's not needed. So I don't really see them as the same thing, just more of a line that just really didn't need to be said. Also, he makes such a point to her that he wasn't involved in what happened with the Fleet and trying to be nice and then just throw that in there was like wtf? Later when you get Legion, Jacob makes a point about how Tali is going to freak when she finds out which shows he respects her. Because of that, again it feels like the other comment doesn't fit. He is introduced to her by trying to make her understand he wasn't with Cerberus when they attacked the fleet and hopes their relationship won't be clouded over it and then later shows concerns over her feelings about the Geth, so the whole side remark on EDI is just way out there and was totally not needed and disrespectful IMO because of the rest of his dialogue with her.

I don't like Jacob's character, in fact, I really just hate him tbh. Most of that, however, is just I think he was really poorly written. Jacob could have been the one new team member Shepard could have really bonded with. He is Ex Alliance, suspicious of Cerberus and only with them because of the threat at hand. They have a lot in common, but his writing was just not up to the higher standard BioWare normally gives us. Even in ME3, and non romanced, he still is an arse. When Shep tries to sympathize he throws out the ridiculous line about the Normandy being Shep's true love. Shep is an emotional character, driven by their desires to save those they love first and foremost, you even can say that to Javik too. You see how much pain Shep has about losing Kaidan/Ash on Virmire, when Garrus gets shot, heck if any squad member dies in the Collector Base, these are actions of someone who deeply loves their friends and loved ones, so the Normandy being their true love comment sucks big time. Again, even without the romance, Jacob is just a really badly written character in my eyes. Yes, I romanced him once to get to punch him in 3 because I was ticked off to all heck over his treatment to Thane, but that was just some pent-up gamer frustrations there, lol.

On the same note, I really don't find his break-up comments that horrible. After all, if you have feelings for someone and they dump you, most people tend to be pretty shitty.  He isn't Ash who spends an entire game being racist to every single nonhuman she comes in contact with, he only says a few badly chosen slurs because the girl he was falling in love with dumped him. Again, more poor writing IMHO. They could have done a lot better and maybe with Garrus said something like, "The Turian? What taking down Saren together bonds you more than the guy helping you stop the abductions of every single human in the galaxy?" I get why people are upset over what he calls Thane and Garrus, especially Thane considering his comments at recruitment, but for me, I get why he says them, and again, being dumped sucks, and people say dumb stuff when they are hurting.

Also, sorry for the book XD

I think there's a serious misinterpretation there. I don't find his comment to Tali snotty nor do i see how anyone can. It's misplaced a bit at most, given the Quarians history with AI's, but other than that its REALLY not that serious. I think the writing direction was to make a scene more humorous with Tali's head snap, it just comes off differently to some people.

Perhaps its all a matter of interpretation but:  The reason Jacob said it was to get back at Tali for being dismissive towards him and Cerberus. He didn't like what she said so he decided to get back at her. He is fully aware of the Quarian's history with AI and hoped it would press her buttons/get under her skin. To her credit Tali didn't take the bait. She looked back and then went on her way probably muttering "Cerberus bosh'tet" in her mind.

However, I actually like this exchange unlike the one with Thane.
