im a bit late but i think i know of a potential cheat/work around, place the aviary and release the pteranodons THEN install this mod, its just a theory so i appologise in advanced if it doesnt work, ill test it myself and then comment wether it works or fails
I'd love to use this but at the same time I'd like to use the caged JW variant... why dont I you ask? Well, obviously thats the plan but unfortunately I cant. Game crashes when I release a pteranodon within the JW cage. Everything works great with JP cage. It must be some sort of a mod conflict that causes this. I have tried reinstalling the game and then one mod at a time with no solution as to what causes this issue. I have also tried to replace the aviary specific files with the backup files but nope, nada.
Anyway, this looks really nice and I'd love to use it. Will check it out anyway! :D
Sorry to say, but the problem of not being able to release the Pteranodon from JW's Aviary, is related to a problem with the Kaiodenic Mods both Ultimate Mixed Eras and JPEO. If you have these mods installed, you can only use it in the JW era
Hey all! After posting yesterday, I decided to do some investigating and learned that ultimate mixed era seems to be the cause for the problem. I opened up a new sandbox game in JW era and aviary worked just fine. Sandbox in JP era causes the JW aviary to cause a crash to desktop when a pteranodon is released. I went to investigate if this bug is known and if someone could verify if they happened to have the same bug. Went to check out Ultimate Mixed Eras page and it is "fortunately" known by the author, thats a huge relief. Fingers crossed theres a solution to this problem. :)
The issue is specifically with the JW Aviary - its script is not editable in any way, and releasing Pteranodons in it will crash in JP era. This is the case for any mod that adds it. You can still use this in JW era.
Here's the bit of script for anyone curious. I've highlighted the relevant bit:
As you see, it determines what gate to look for depending on the era. So in JP era, it tries to open a gate called "PDLC_UTL_Aviary_HatcheryGate." This gate does not exist on JW Aviaries.
The rest of this script, as mentioned above, is not currently editable so this cannot be fixed by any mod. The "Assert" is what makes the game crash when that gate isn't found.

If I don't have the other mod, I can use Aviary without Cage and Buildings without problems in every Era I want, right?
The JW Aviary does not work in JP in general - it's an issue with how they coded pteranodon release. With UME (or any mod that adds the JW Aviary to JP), you can use it as a visual piece but not release pteras. With no mixed eras mods installed, you cannot use it in JP era period.
