Introduction
This is an improved version of the classic Year Level mod.
The Year Level mod allows you to choose one of twelve different heights for the player, but it suffers from some flaws. The creator of that mod has not updated it for a year and hasn't replied to any user messages for a year either. I think it's fair to assume that they're never going to fix the problems.
I have therefore produced this new version with the following improvements:
- Height and head size can be adjusted up or down (in steps of 2%) to achieve whatever height or head size you want.
- Your chosen height and head size setting is preserved when you fast travel or load a game.
- Cutscene rescaling can now be toggled on/off at will (even while the cutscene is playing).
- Cloth physics no longer freaks out (mostly).
- Key bindings can be changed.
You should be able to install the mod automatically using Vortex (then skip to step 4 below), but Vortex can be a bit unreliable with Hogwarts Legacy mods (it doesn't always delete mods properly) so I would recommend installing it manually as follows:
- Download the mod.
- Unzip the contents.
- Move zPlayerHeight-1028_P.utoc, zPlayerHeight-1028_P.ucas, and zPlayerHeight-1028_P.pak to the Steam\steamapps\common\Hogwarts Legacy\Phoenix\Content\Paks\~mods\ folder.
- Install Blueprint Apparate Modloader if you haven't already.
- Start Hogwarts Legacy
- Load your most recent save-file.
- Press the F8 key to activate Blueprint Apparate Modloader.
- Type PlayerHeight in the little window and hit the Enter key on your keyboard.
- The word PlayerHeight should disappear and reappear lower down in that window with an X next to it. If it doesn't - if it stays on the top line - then either a) you put the .utoc, .ucas and .pak files in the wrong folder, or b) one of your existing mods is already using pakchunk 1028. Use my PakChunk Checker to check that. If you have a pakchunk conflict see the Conflicts section below.
- Press F8 again to close the modloader window.
Default Key Bindings
By default this mod uses the following key bindings:
- ALT-NUMPAD8 = Increase player height by 2%.
- ALT-NUMPAD5 = Reset the player height to default.
- CTRL-NUMPAD5 = Display the current player height multiplier.
- ALT-NUMPAD2 = Decrease player height by 2%.
- NUMPAD5 = Toggle cutscene rescaling on/off. On (or "true") means the player will be rescaled to default height during cutscenes.
- ALT-NUMPAD9 = Increase player head by 2%.
- ALT-NUMPAD6 = Reset the player head to default.
- CTRL-NUMPAD6 = Display the current player head multiplier.
- ALT-NUMPAD3 = Decrease player head by 2%.
Custom Key Bindings
You can change the key bindings to anything you like as follows:
- Download & install the latest version of this mod, start the game, do the F8 thing (if you haven't already), load a save file, then shut down the game.
- In Windows Explorer type %localappdata%\Hogwarts Legacy\Saved\Config\WindowsNoEditor into the address bar at the top and hit Enter.
- Left click Input.ini then right click it and select "Edit" (or "Open with" > "Notepad").
- Search for PlayerHeight. You should find entries like those below.
- Change the items shown in green below to whatever you want. Key names can be found here.
- Restart the game.

ActionMappings=(ActionName="PlayerHead_Increase",bShift=False,bCtrl=False,bAlt=True,bCmd=False,Key=NumPadNine,GroupName="",SortIndex=0)
ActionMappings=(ActionName="PlayerHeadt_Reset",bShift=False,bCtrl=False,bAlt=True,bCmd=False,Key=NumPadSix,GroupName="",SortIndex=0)
How to Un-Install
Either:
1) If you installed it via Vortex: Disable or Uninstall it via Vortex. BUT also CHECK that it's gone from the ~mods folder afterwards.
2) Delete zPlayerHeight-1028_P.utoc, zPlayerHeight-1028_P.ucas, and zPlayerHeight-1028_P.pak from the ~mods folder.
Conflicts
This mod uses pakchunk 1028. You can check if that conflicts with any of your existing mods by running my PakChunk Checker batch script after you've installed this mod. If it does conflict, you can fix it using the Chunk ID Conflict Manager.
This mod is not compatible with the Year Level mod since they both change player height.
Known Issues
Below is a list of the known issues. If you encounter any others please let me know in the POSTS section.
- When you reach Gringotts during the intro a game bug can transport you to the wrong side of a ravine. If you try to get back you fall through the world and get stuck. I'll try to find a workaround for this but for now it would be best to disable the mod during that part of the game. (Press F8 then hit the X to unload the mod from the modloader.)
- When you mount a broom the game (not my mod) changes your size to the default. Fortunately it changes back when you dismount.
- Riding a Hippogriff / Graphorn / etc may look weird if you're particularly large or small. If I can find a way to fix this I will.
- At really tiny player sizes skirts "inflate" a little bit. If I can find a way to fix this I will.
- Cloth physics might or might not freak out with modded clothes. Try it and see!
- Modded clothes might or might not clip with certain player sizes. Try it and see!
