I'm having trouble getting it to work. I was able to use it before, but I reinstalled Alyx recently (and, of course, reinstalled the mod as well), and the skill commands don't seem to be executing at all. Do you have an idea of possible causes for this?
I get that the mod description says it's not recommended for the first time through, and that you should typically keep things close to vanilla the first time you play, but can anyone speak to how drastic of an improvement this is? I really value the experience of a first playthrough of a game, and if this really makes the game that much more enjoyable, then I would prefer to have that improved experience right from the beginning, instead of playing a slightly worse version first and then a better version later when the game is less fresh. Is this a good idea?
id really like the game to be actual realistic damage. one shot to alyx in chest or head is instant kill, limbs maybe 2 hearts? but also all combine die in 1 or 2 headshots (maybe 3 if pushing it with some of the bigger dudes) with anywhere with *actual* armor being super hard to kill through. grenades always kill if within range
I think the non-combine enemies would be fine with increased but not instadeath damage levels.
if this can be easily achieved on your end as an optional, I'd be one very happy camper.
Just wanted to say thanks for this - it has made the game EXACTLY how I wanted it to be, in fact it has resolved my only criticism of the game (bullet sponge enemies) and made it more tense, 'realistic; and enjoyable. Fantastic work!
Vital for a second play through. Drastically speeds up the rate you can play through the game, especially in the zombie portions, while shaking up the game play through making Alyx easily killable, and encouraging less mistakes. Very cool!
I found HLAs combat to be disappointing when compared to the frantic pacing and fluid movement of its predecessors combat, but this really ramps things up across the board to make things more challenging and rewarding. I don't really blame Valve though, I understand that making the experience comfortable and accessible for VR newcomers was the bottom line in many aspects of the game's design philosophy.
It gets me excited too about the potential for modding on the HLA scene, maybe we could pair this mod with others that bump up the enemy count or increase the movement speed and we can make our own HL1 or HL2 style experience in HLA.

I'm sure people can tweak this further by editing the main cfg file.
Props for the work.

Do you think that would work? I guess a lot more effort than just tweaking the damage though right?
