The game is indeed being updated regularly which breaks this mod. I don't play Gears 5 often enough to keep up with the updates so I'll paste the steps listed in my description box on self-updating this mod.
If Gears 5 updates then mod is broken. To fix, find unmodded GearGame.b2index in your game folder \Gears5\GearGame\Content\B2 (you probably need vanilla b2index file so if you only have modded one then delete it and re-verify your game)
Place b2index in a hex editor (like HxD)
Search file for each .json and .ini included in mod by name and replace the first letter. i.e. DefaultGame.ini replaced with XefaultGame.ini and save.
Then either paste my mod .ini and .json files OR Use quickbms and custom ue4 scripts (find the gears 5 script) to extract b2index and start your own mod with fresh .ini and .json files, following steps from above.
I'd love to see this mod get revived for 2024 since Gears 5 is def not getting anymore support nor updates. and does anyone have the latest modded game files for this mod because I tried following the instructions and i'm completely lost ngl. i tried the 2023 files from one of the posts here and the game refuses to launch on those files
The game is no longer getting updates so you shouldn't have to worry about your mod breaking anymore if you decide to update it again down the road.
Also, do you know if model swaps are possible for the main player, or only bots? I'd love to finally get to use the Terminator Endoskeleton skin, but since you can only play as Coalition in bot matches I've never been able to..
I tried editing what I thought were relevant lines in DefaultGame.ini by swapping the line referring to a character's skin with the T-800's ("SkinContainer_Term_T800.SkinContainer_Term_T800"), but it didn't seem to change anything in-game, unfortunately. I'd love to have DeeBee use the T-800 model.
Hi everyone, I tried the uploaded originals and changed the names with HxD but it breaks the game. Sadly I'm unable to extract the inis from the latest b2index with bms. Could you upload the extracted files from the recent index?
I think it will help if you can make a video on how to use hex editor when the game updates. A lot of people(including myself) are not familiar with hex editors and how they work

Just replace the GearGame.b2index(and defaultgame.ini if you like)
or can you upload the newest extracted original file, we can mod by ourselves...............
